No offense slipn but your concept of defensive handgunning is flawed and could cost you your life if you don't realize it. Typically if it comes to firing on someone I hope for your sake (in the eyes of the law) they posed a direct and immediate threat to you. And if thats the case the quicker you can stop them the better. And a .22LR, .22S, .22WMR will have little to no immediate stopping power. Its very well proven.
