what has america done for me?

last night while watching bill o'reilly he had a crew go out and ask some kids some things about what it means to be an american. like whats the best thing about living here, would you prefere to live elsewhere. one kid they asked if he would join the military. his response was no way what has america done for me? this was the basic attitude of all but 1 kid, and i think she may have just been too young to formulate the answer, i think she knew what it means to be an american just couldnt put it into words.

i remember growin up and in history class we learned a bunch of quotes by differant people. for instance: i have a dream... , there is nothing to fear but fear itself...,but the one that always sticks out in my memory is: ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country.

well now the answer to what america could do for these kids. we could not allow you to go to school or hold a job because of the colour of your skin, religious and/or politial beliefs or sex. we could force you into the military at age 18 unless you goto collage if we decide you are fit to goto collage. we could decide what job you will hold and how much you make. we could hold against you your familys religious or political beleifs. we could throw you in prison for speaking out against the goverment. we could ,not give you due process of law. there is alot america could do for you, but instead we dont, we just let you live your life. we give yuo the rights and freedom to choose. this is why I owe my country. this is why I proudly served my country.

now i may not agree with some of the laws here, i may not agree with some political points of veiw. hell there a lot i do agree with but i also know that the power to change these things are mine. thats why i love my country and my countrymen (and especialy the women ) i may not agree with p4b or torog on many issues but by god i love you guys for bein american and i will stand up and defend your right to disagree with me anytime anyplace.

When asked what country he came from, Diogenes the Cynic replied, "I am a citizen of the world."

i need to say i didnt mean to single out anyone here just the first two who came to mind.

i too am a lot more middle of the road i guess. but i consider my self a true liberal because i beleive in freedom for everyone,be you black ,white ,gay ,straight ,male or female. noone is beneath me noone is above me we are all humans and its not my place to judge.

there is a lot of so-called liberals here who give the rest of us a bad name. we call them nut-jobs too.

ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country
I personally think that this is the stupidest philosophy. The government is supposed to serve us, not the other way around.

    America does kick ass though.
