I used to have this one friend who reminds me of Huey. He calls himself a revolutionary, but he hates the video/song "Read a Book", and he refuses to watch the Boondocks or read the syndicated comic strip. He says that "ordinary" people don't understand the satire behind the humor, and that all it does is reinforce stereotypes, and causes Whites to think they were right about Blacks all along, and makes Blacks think that ghetto behavior is okay. He says the world isn't smart enough. I told him we can't wait for people to get smarter before we tell them the truth. We make them smarter by telling it. We can't dumb ourselves down. He and I used to argue about this shit all the time. Truthfully, I think HE'S the one that's too stupid to comprehend satire. Needless to say, he and I are no longer friends. Our arguments over the Boondocks were merely symptomatic of a broader fundamental philosophical difference of opinion.
