Have any of you simply thought of walking off?
It's not even that it's a male thing, it's that I went to prove to myself what I'm worth. And to me, the only way to prove that, is to get down to the absolute basics of life (in my opinion)..survival.
In addition to that, I'm sick of people and sick of Society in general. I'de get along just fine without society.
I dont necessarily want to be a "wild man" or anything like that. I'll build a log cabin (I know how) on a spot I'll deem eligible. A spot where I can maintain a large garden with all kinds of fruits and vegetables. I'll bring some guns and ammo, ya know, the basics.
As someone above stated, life in society seems actually more complex than life alone in the woods would. That's all I want, to live peacefully in my own humble abode. It's a real Stoic philosophy I've been exposed to. When you're surviving in the woods, there's no chance you can overindulge in certain things, you take what you need to survive, which often times is a moderate amount. Moderation is key. I think someone leaving civilization for good and being tested in the wild for true survival would be an interesting event for someone to go through.
What would you do to survive? Sit there and cry for mommy or grab a rock, sharpen a point and stab an animal of some kind. Cavemen did it, so why couldn't any of us.
I'll see you in the woods!

My question is how far into the woods are we going to go? Are you driving a car? or can we hire a plane to drop us off at some remote lake in canada?

I always thought about that, until I think about how easy life is. And how you couldnt even get a can of soda in the wild.... fuck it.

I read Into the Wild couple years ago, read it in 3 hours. Great book, great read, real inspirational. I'm skeptical to see the rest of the movie, you know how that goes. However I strongly recommend reading the book first, the movie seems to take on a different point of view from what I experienced from the book.
