Good News From Iraq Not Getting Reported

On October 7, NewsBusters shared the astonishing statements of journalists from the Washington Post and CNN as to why good news from Iraq should not get reported.

Two weeks later, the Iraq Interior Ministry announced: "Violence in Iraq has dropped by 70 percent since the end of June, when U.S. forces completed their build-up of 30,000 extra troops to stabilize the war-torn country."

Such was reported by Reuters at 1:01 PM EST Monday. Not surprisingly, the major American media outlets ignored the good news.

Been little to nothing on the news about Iraq as of late....massive bombings, oil lines being destroyed, etc........ever wonder why? Bad news sells.....that's why we see more of O.J. now that Iraq.

A few days ago Rush Limbaugh read some statements from some head of the news department of some big tv network/media conglomerate. He stated outright that less violence in Iraq "...is not news". Huh? :wtf: I hate everything about Bush, the neo-cons and this trumped up war, but fair is fair. If progress is being made, it should be reported.

...of course, there's always the fact that reporting on progress in Iraq would be disastrous for all those in government right now, regardless of their party affiliation. Americans may tolerate spending 100's of billions on a war, but if the hundreds of billions of dollars that are being spent on rebuilding Iraq were reported, most Americans would look around at our crumbling infrastructure, and the lame excuses our politicians come up with for why we haven't the money to rebuild, and suddenly you would see a groundswell of opposition to the Iraqi swindle from most Americans, regardless of their party affiliation.

Just think what we could have done for America with the money we wasted on Iraq.

the media in this country sucks. ever notice its not only iraq. its every thing, we get flooded with nothing but bad news. last nights evening news was 1 hour of california wild fires. granted yes this is a tradgedy but come on, there are other things happening here an abroad.
i heard 30 seconds of the fact new orleans is flooding, nothin about the drought in georgia. they spend more time telling me about brittney. i could give less than a shit about brittney or any other celeb for that matter.
its almost like the media wants to keep us blind to whats really happening.

americans seem to want to worship the entertainers. why i dont understand. if i want to know whats happening with britney or lindsey ill turn on the entertainment channel where this news belongs not the evening news.
how many people know that just this past weekend louisianna elected the first govner that was of indian decnt also only the second govoner who is a "man of colour"(not my words but the local media here) and also a republican.
the news should report the news i havent eard a feal good storie in a long time but is up to the public to change this. we have to quit watchin the bullcrap stories ,we have to quit feeding the beast.

The only good news would be weapons of mass destruction were found, and the 3000+ heroic soldiers lost to this war did not die in vain because of a politicians stupid mistake. Although I'm not sure why you say this news isn't being reported on, I read about it a few days ago so I caught it, but maybe it's just because I pay more attention than the average moron getting their news from Jon Stewart.

As much as it is good news, I won't have a smile on my face until we are completely out of Iraq, but as time progresses, the Bush administration continues to taunt the threat of war with Iran. They might not say it outright, but come on, wake up people, what do you really think they are talking about when they say "all options are on the table"?

If we go into Iran, we will certainly never leave Iraq, we will need it for a base. So despite this tiny bit of good news, it won't make me happy until all of our brave and heroic soldiers are out of this horrible mistake in Iraq.
