My favorite is raw veggies and non-fat ranch dip made with ranch dip mix and non-fat plain yogurt. I eat lean meats and complex carbs and drink lots of water and get lots of exercise. If you work out, you can have a lot more freedom in your food choices. Lay off the high-fat foods, fast foods, and simple carbohydrates.

I agree with everything El Fantistico said except for avoiding weights when trying to burn fat. Depending on the person, weight training can be the most effective form of fat-burning because it's quickly turned into muscle. I'm not concerned with weight-loss, so I do 30 min of elliptical (my body can't handle impact) garnished with sit-ups for a strong back and push-ups for attractive shoulders. 4-5 times a week. I have bad-cholesterol-related stuff in my genes.
Don'ts: processed food (most packaged dinners), soda, cheese, it's not complicated.
Do's: Buy food from the perimeter of the store (produce, fresh lean meat and fish, yogurt), high fiber cereal, oats, unsalted nuts, extra-virgin olive oil (to replace butter), unsalted seeds and beans (hemp seed has ALL the essential amino acids). Unsalted nuts are an easy healthy item to munch on.
It's all pretty easy when you make a habit out of it. If you follow a plan like this 80% of the time, allowing occasional cheats (i gotta have pizza sometimes), you will be healthy, you'll avoid depression, and you'll enjoy life unfathomably

I'm 38. I'm 5'5", 115 lbs. I eat whatever the hell I please. In moderation. I listen to my body. If my body tells me to eat nothing but tuna and collard greens for week straight, then that's what I do. This week, I've been guzzling homemade frappucinos like there's no tomorrow, and gorging myself on smoked almonds and feta cheese. I have a high need for protein.
Drink lots of water, listen to your body, and enjoy your munchies in moderation. An awesome munchie snack is to mix honey roasted peanuts, raisins, cinnamon Life cereal, and shredded sweetened coconut in a ziploc bag. It's very satisfying. I also have a high need for whole grains, and eat tons of Wheat Thins, Triscuits, and oatmeal.
