If you could create your own country...
Mine would be a lot like Napolitana's.
Health care for everyone.
Education for everyone, and everyone'd be required to complete at least two years of college or trade school, so we'd have low crime and a healthy economy. Everyone would need to learn at least one other language in addition to English.
National service, whether in the military or in some other capacity, would be mandatory for all people under 30.
Militarily neutral.
No discrimination of any kind, although I'm not sure how this could be achieved. Race. Gender. Sexual proclivity or transgender status. Age. Marital status. Handicapped. Or veterans.
No guns among regular citizens. Police wouldn't carry lethal weapons, either.
Tobacco wouldn't be allowed.
Exercise would be taught from the time people were toddlers, practically, and would be a routine part of everyone's day. I hope this'd help offset an obesity/diabetes epidemic.
Implementation of a minimum-standards program for parenting.
Part of the health care system would include vaccinations for all children; addiction management so addicts could use clean needles, get clean drugs and be in safe places when they used; obesity assistance; psychiatric care; prenatal care; sex and birth control information and assistance; and elderly care.
Marriage certificates would have expiration/renewal dates, but couples with children would be required to seek counseling and marital assistance before choosing not to renew or divorcing.
Encouragement of adoption over abortion for unplanned pregnancies, but abortion access would ultimately still be safe and legal (just very rare)
Physician-assisted suicide for the terminally ill.
Cannabis would be legal for medical use and for over-18 recreational use.
One-strike laws for violent crimes against humans and crimes against children (a one-time pedophile wouldn't get another chance).
Stringent laws governing animal welfare and care.
Elections by popular vote (no electoral college).
Retirement savings would begin in infancy and continue throughout people's lives.
Taxation according to income and with thorough representation.
Abolition of the two-party political system. We'd have a multi-party or wholly party-independent system.
Stringent ethics rules would strongly limit campaign financing, lobbying, and special interest influence in our political system.
Similar ethics rules would be put place for big-business, particularly for protection of individual workers and their pension and savings plans so that they wouldn't be sacrificed at expense of stockholders or executives.
More ethics rules governing physicians and the medical industry, freeing them from the influence of Big Pharmaceutical interests and influence.
Physicians and patients would make decisions regarding medical care, not insurance companies.
Husbands would send their wives flowers every Friday. Wives would do something equally nice in return. (Just thought I'd throw this in for good measure!)\"That best portion of a good man\'s life: his little, nameless, unremembered acts of kindness and love.\"
