Brownies for Beginners ... done right in a couple of hours
k, gotta drop a quick note just to share my experience. Never cooked before so it was my first attempt and I'm cheap so i was worried about wasting a 1/4 by screwing it up somehow.
I got some brand of peanut butter cup brownies and i had peanut oil. Directions called for 1/4 oil or 1/3 (for cake like brownies). I used 1/3 oil but left the egg/water mixture like it said for normal brownies (thinking a little more oil might help with the thc extraction). I have a gas range and was worried about it getting too hot. I had decent bud and did an okay job removing stems/seeds, but not perfect. Grounded it twice on the "fine" setting of my coffee grinder and used a shaving clipper brush to make sure I got all of the powder out.
I put the powder into the oil pretty soon after the oil started to get warm and dropped it down to the lowest setting on my gas range. Because I was cooking it at a lower temperature than suggested I cooked it for a full hour. A few times I tried to raise the temp but mostly left it on lowest. I stirred occasionally and mostly stirred by shaking the stainless steel saute pan. I could see the heating oil gently moving the particles around, but I wouldn't call it a simmer. I was careful not to get it so hot I could see the oil smoking.
I let it cool for about 15 minutes and then did the brownies as per instructions in a blue glass 8x8 baking dish. Then I proceeded to lick the hell out of the batter that was left over in the mixing bowl (wondering what effect it might have). I let the brownies cool for a long time and then tried to dump them upside down to cut, but they kind of fell apart. That was likely my bad from using the extra oil and not cooking long enough.
Regardless, I got very high from the batter and little bits I ate as I was packaging them up. I did some research on storing and settled on putting them all (unshapely as they were) in a freezer ziploc, sucking all the air out with a drinking straw, wrapped in foil and stuck in the freezer. The general consensus I gathered about storing seemed to be they would freeze well up to 6 months with little to no effect on potency, just taste/texture of the brownies.
Needless to say, I am thrilled. Based on the batter cleanup I have to say they are very potent. I love not having to smoke as I worry about the ol' lungs. It did take a couple hours before I realized I was super-stoned. Thanks for the easy to follow recipe and making it idiot-proof. Whhoooooohaaaaaa.
I'm going to try a whole brownie tonight, can't wait...whoknewit Reviewed by whoknewit on .
