Nft pretty much nailed the grinding bit..

I always liked ash catchers because then the waters not as bad, and I frequently empty my bong water, I don't want my bong stinking up my room. But an ash catcher isn't really necessary.

Rolling is a skill that takes practice to master. Take a paper, fold it either in half (may be already folded) or towards the bottom a little more, so one side is drastically less than the other. Put some weed onto it, and you can have from very little to a decent amount.. And just simply press it down, and roll it up. Takes practice, watch others do it. I never really liked filters, they seem extra, but they're easy to make. Get something like a business card, cut off a piece, and roll it up into a little tube or something, and put it in your joint. Or you can make it and put on your paper as you're rolling it, but i prefer sticking it in at the end.

Rolling papers (afaik) are made out of hemp, and are treated slightly. Maybe to add scent, etc. Papers are better than just hemp because they may taste better, smell better, and they have the adhesive so that you can lick it and your joint won't fall apart.

If you want a soother hit, I would recommend not using a grinder, because when it's ground, it burns easier and you get a bigger hit and it comes faster, so you cough your lungs out. And if you want an even smoother hit, put an ice cube (I know it sounds ridiculous) in your mouth, and take a nice, SLOW hit. If it's slow, the smoke will cool by the time it gets to your throat, and the ice cube will help.

First question. To grind or not to grind. We always just broke it up with our fingers, didn't even know about grinders till I came here.
