I took prozac as a late teen. It was the only SSRI that didn't give me headaches or work reversly. I went through Efexor zolof and this one other thing I forgot..... thats all the prescription medication I have ever takin for more than one week.
I got amphetamines when I broke my leg for 5 days.....

Everyone I've spoken to has told me that weed actually helps more than it hinders. The weird thing is that a lot of anti-depressants are actually depressants. An example is my girlfriend's mom who takes anti-depressants, drinks, and ends up screaming and throwing stuff at people.

I'd do what you have to do, if you think weed is hurting you somehow then stop, its not a big deal to stop every once in a while. On the other hand if it isn't hurting you then my advice would be to tell your psychiatrist he's barking up the wrong tree.

I also recommend firing the shrink. Dr.'s are lazy as fuck and don't want to look hard to find a solution for you. My Dr's used to blame every problem I had on being fat. (back when I was) Then I went to a female dr. who actually cured me of chronic ear infections and the other stuff that was going on because of my weight.
I went to a psychiatrist who told me bdsm was the root of all my problems and that I should stop participating in all forms of it immediately or my situation could get dire. (fired him) Got a new psych who prescribed me new meds and laughed when I told her what the previous doc had said.

you have to shop for doctors, find one who thinks like you, find one who will work harder to find out what's wrong with you. you deserve to be treated like an individual.

what you need to do is take the meds and smoke pot and when he says he is happy with your mental improvement you can throw it in his face and say "hey, you, bullshitter, ive been smoking the entire time and ive regained mental health, go back to school dumbass"

as long as your not psychotic, smoke the herb, ditch the pills. Herb is natures medicine and its alot safer for you too.

The irony is most "mind influencing" medications do poorly when compared to placebo's (sugar pills) positive thinking means more than anything. No matter how much you have to force yourself to think positive its going to do more for you than any pill...

And, as nullific pointed out the majority are inherently dangerous and not even proven helpful but that doesnt bother the FDA no sirree.....And, dont get me started on doctors who prescribe things that companies give them for free.....Here's a good clue if your doctor(any type) actually cares about his patients. He'll have up to date studies littered around his office. He/she will also double check and recheck findings or diagnosis on the suspicion he or she might be wrong . I've only found one doctor so far that meets this criteria but im sure there is plenty out there. Good luck.
