I think I Figured My Problem Out...Step Inside

    Hey Guys,
I posted about two weeks ago saying I had some yellowing\browning of my leaves, and they were dieing off. I didn't know exactly what it was because I hadn't seen it before. You can view the thread here:

    http://boards.cannabis.com/indoor-gr...ifficency.html

Last night I decided to give them a real nice flush. Because I don't have an irrigation system set up (next round) and my room is pretty much filled to the max with plants, this required bringing them into the garage... and putting them on cinder blocks in a huge container..dumpin gthe container, re-filling the resi, etc etc

It was a pretty big process. We used 25 gallons of water with Clearex per 6 plants (I'm growing in Sunshine) Now my yellowing\browning wasn't terrible... but it was there without question. I decided to borrow my friends PPM\PH\Temp meter just to make the proccess easier and I think I figured out what was wrong with my plants.

Those "drop a few drops of solution in the little plastic case and agitate the water" ABSOLUTELY SUCK. I believe I've been giving my plants water that was too high in PH. I was always pretty dilligent with the crappy old thing, but just for shits and giggles...I tried to measure the PH with the cheap thing..and it was a full point off from what the PH stick was telling me. YIKES! Here I am five weeks into flower and I've probably been giving them bad water the entire time.... not anymore, I'm getting a PH pen.

Anyhow, I got about 7-10 gallons of run off from each plant, so I am hopeful that if they were locked up from bad PH, that problem will now be gone. To me suprise, the run off that I got when flushing was in the 5.7-6.0 range... while the water I was flushing with was around 5.7

That means the PH of my SunShine#4 was not THAT far off, right? Do you guys think the PH in the soil-less mix is now correct? Here I thought I had nutrient burn most of the time. I did see some slight signs of nutrient burn (very narrow lines of yellow on the edges of the leaves) but it's hard to say what was what now that I know that my PH tester blows big time.

I am scheduled to finish up in less than three weeks, and I was giving them 900PPM water. I obviously have to slowly work them back up to that, but I am scheduled to switch over to my "Super Bloom" additive shortly, which is super high in Phospherus real soon. These puppies should be done in about three weeks, maybe a tad more. I should probably let them recover from the shock before blasting them with the Super Bloom right?

Thanks for all the help through out my first three grows cannabis.com - I try to help other people on here almost on a daily basis as well. I'm busy so I find it hard to do, but I usually pop in here for 10 minutes a day to answer some basic questions... even if I'm not posting my own threads with questions about my grow. See ya gang!:thumbsup:

Moral of this story... GO BUY A PH PEN! A good triple meter one is about $200 dollars, and it's worth it! I've never run into PH problems in my last few grows, but these little tempermental bitches were quite mad at me! I hope they are happy...it took me about 8 hours to do the flushing last night with a friend.

I use the manual test with drops... switch over to a PH pen! The drops system simply doesn't work well at all IMO.

how did that flush work out? i always felt that flushing in soil/soilless mixes creates too soggy of an environment. it just seems to me that after flushing the soil is completely soaked and thats not a good environment at all for something to be growing in, but i can see how it is necessarry sometimes.

Flushing went well, the soil less mix is still pretty wet, and humidity levels have been a bit higher than usual lately. I'm hopeful the mix will dry out and be ready for a water tomorrow. I was at close to 900 PPM before, so I'm thinking I'll start them at like 500PPM or so...and work my way up. The end is nearing so I want to work them up quick but don't want to stress em.
