If it is shwag are you sure it is not just the weed?

Also dug outs use metal pipes, sometimes I find that weed taste a little different when smoked out of metal. Just my opinion though.

I would also check the cleanliness of your pipe. Is it coated with resin? A pipe with too much resin can effect the taste of the herb.

Yes resin does smell kind of bad and very strong. In fact, my wife can tell when I have been smoking resin or smoking pot.
