Parrots as guard dogs?

Parrot chirping 'hello' wakens Texas man who shoots burglar - Yahoo! News

CHICAGO (AFP) - A parrot chirping "hello" woke his Texas owner up to find, and then shoot, a burglar in his garage Tuesday, police said.

"I guess you could call him a stool pigeon," owner Dennis Baker told the Dallas Morning News.
It was the fifth time the home, which is also used as a locksmith shop, was burglarized this month.
So when Baker woke to the sounds of Salvador, his Mexican Red-headed parrot, saying "hello, hello" he knew something was wrong.
Baker grabbed his gun and shot the burglar in his garage at about 1:30 am. The man died at hospital, police said.
"I have tools in my garage, my house and my van," Mr. Baker said. "They were coming here like they owned the place. I hate what happened, but somebody has to do what's necessary."
The bird also chirped "hello" when police arrived, Baker said.
"Sometimes he says 'hi,' but you can't get him to speak on cue," Mr. Baker said. "He has a mind of his own."
Texas has recently eased restrictions on people confronting intruders in their homes, businesses or cars. They are no longer obligated to retreat before responding with deadly force.
It's hard to tell whether this is the reason behind a recent spat of home or business owners shootings intruders, said Dallas police spokesman Sergeant Gil Cerda.
"It's hard to tell how many people know the law changed," he said in a telephone interview.
"Maybe some of these homeowners are saying enough's enough," he said, explaining that one local man recently shot and killed two burglars in a matter of weeks.
While Texans have the right to use deadly force to protect themselves and their property, each homicide is investigated and presented before a grand jury to determine if it was justified.
"I've yet to see one where they've ruled against them," Cerda said.Coelho Reviewed by Coelho on . Parrots as guard dogs? It seems so... Parrots as guard dogs?
I've never heard of a parrot doing that before, but Guinea fowl are known to be excellent 'watch-birds' and geese can be quite nasty and are liable to attack intruders. Not that you'd want one inside your house...

Can we keep this thread on the topic in the title and not get into a discussion of blowing intruders to bits? Thanks.

My brother had one of em,and it could mimic his voice so closely that it often fooled his wife..lol.
Now then..what phrases would be good to teach to a parrot in terms of security ?
Have a good one !

The parrot that my brother had, mimiced their dog barking, just fine,so i reckon that would work, however,my gal pointed out, that unless ya hollered at the parrot(and said "It's just me !'),say if ya drop something in the dark,it would go off..lol.

Parrots as guard dogs?
an ex in law of mine had a couple African Greys...one time I came up to them and gave them a crazy look...it freaked them out..from then on, at least for 5 years...everytime they even caught a sight of me, they would start growling and going crazy..I tried to reason with them that I was joking but they wouldnt listen..they figured on holding it against me forever I guess.
