Unusual Problem

I am in an odd situation with my parents. It involves me, driving a car, and smoking marijuana.

My father, who used to be a big drug dealer in the late 70's and is now a president of a small company, approves of me smoking. He is letting me grow at his house. His a very understandable and respectful guy so I wish to show him the respect he has shown me.

He has a big problem with me smoking and driving and his reason for this is understandable.
Back in his drug days, he was in a bad car accident where the 3 other passengers had died leaving him the only person alive. He blames this on the reason that they were all high.

So he has come up with the idea to drug test me every 2 weeks to make sure I am not smoking and driving. This leaves me never able to smoke unless I want to take the bus to work. And everywhere else.

He told me that if I could find an other way to ensure him that I wasn't driving while intoxicated and it was a decent idea, he would apply it.
So my problem is I can't think of an other ideas.
Just wondering if anyone could help me on this? It'd be greatly appreciated.:stoned:

well if you don't smoke before you drive, but you smoke at night before bed, you are still going to fail the test, just promise your dad you won't smoke while you drive, and if he believes that you wont, then don't, respect him, just smoke when you get to your destination, or a while before you leave

hmm...tough one. sounds almost like you gotta choose between the two privileges. could you maybe ask your dad to smell the car. but then what's to say you don't smoke THEN drive? the only thing I can think of is to get your dad to trust your word. will post something else if I can think of something.

Yeah man jus dont smoke up when u are about to drive do it when u dunt have to drive. Plus i personally dont like smokin up in the morning if i have stuff to do i get very tired and lazy.

you know how theres those things where if you get convicted of drunk driving u have to blow into a breathalizer test to make sure your not drunk and it starts the car. maybe you could get one of those for pot put in your car so it will detect if your high or something.

I think you need to sit him down and have a serious conversation with him where you assure him that you understand his reasons for not wanting you to smoke and drive. Tell him you respect him, his rules, and trust his judgment. You hope he trusts and respects you as well, and you wouldn't do something stupid to endanger your relationship. Then tell him that testing you every couple of weeks sends the message that he doesn't really trust you to adhere to the rules he set in regards to driving and it is in direct opposition to the message he gives by allowing you to grow. If you sit and calmly discuss this with him in an intelligent and mature manner, he may reconsider.

I don't get it. I agree with Cannabis-sativa, since he allows you to smoke, passing a drug test is virtually an impossible catch-22.

Assuming you are over 18, he has put you in a difficult situation. He wants you to follow the "living under my roof, follow my rules" deal. While he seems cool, he has lived an undeniable trauma. Since it sounds like you don't live with him, your alternative is not smoke his pot and find a different source.

And you should respectfully keep any driving to a minimum, only in case of extreme emergencies to get munchies at 7-11.
