I think a stoner is someone who likes to get stoned.

Unfortunately and stereotipically speaking, the word is indeed not so honored by the pot smoking community. I say next time somebody calls you a stoner to bring you down; start throwing stones at them 'til they bleed. Then ask them, how it feels to be stoned by a stoner. Them command them, to never call you a stoner, ever again!

There are smart people that smoke weed. There are stupid people who smoke weed. The former, being smart, is compelled to elevate themselves above the unfortunate stigma of "stoner" that is perpetuated by the stupid. If I'm ever referred to as a stoner in a derogative manner, I instruct the epithet-giver that they are confusing me with one of the stupid ones. Another thing that sucks: the stupid don't realize they're stupid.

imo stoner = peaceful smoker... anyone can be a pothead, but potheads can also be assholes... stroner is usually too stoned to even get up in arms about anything... more laid back... and more times then not you'll catch 'em with some type of food/snack in their hands lol

heres what i think of when i hear the these terms, different kinds of ganja smokers

stoners- irresponsible, stupid pot smokers
preps- asshole rich-kid pot smokers also get drunk a lot
theres the gangster and wannabe gangster pot smokers
hippies- laid back, friendly, intellectual pot smokers
