LIGHT QUESTION
Hey fellow toker's & grower's  a quick question on lighting . my grow room is 4ft x 4ft x 7ft & if i used a one 1000 watt hps blub with a cool tube vent , would i have enough lighting for 9 northern light plants 2 give me a decent yield ? of course i know my yield depends on a lot of things : temp , humid , nutes & additives , co2 , but is that enough lighting for the space i have & how is that determined ? thank's for any input

LIGHT QUESTION
A 1000W HPS would be sufficient enough for nine females. Especially since you're growing in a pretty confined space. Be sure that you are reflecting as much light as possible, either via Mylar or flat white paint. You can probably expect at least 1oz. or more per plant from Northern Lights with decent ventilation, a good nutrient regimen, and plenty of reflected light.
The biggest issue you might have to deal with will be limitations on space. NL is mostly Indica, and will likely grow bushy, as opposed to vertically. You can learn more about thinning & training your plants to get the most out of the vertical space available.
A 1000W fixture will generally supply enough light to cover a 6.5 foot by 6.5 foot grow area. (30 plants or less) But, as with everything, results will vary depending on your own circumstances.

you can always lst and do a scrog, or a combo of both, with nine plants it should greatly increase your yield, again, other factors considered such as fim, topping, etc. if you arent familiar with scrog do a search for justaseed's thread called "Lovely Ladies". He used 2 or 3 plants and got, i think, 12 oz. Best damn scrog ive seen.
Nevermind, heres a link to it http://boards.cannabis.com/closet-ca...ly-ladies.html

1K watts is good for 9 plants. It's a little overkill for your space though. Your space is good for 600 watts, but if you can keep it cool, of course 1000 watts is even better.

LIGHT QUESTION
An ounce, dry weight, is what I was referring to...and I wasn't saying you couldn't get a larger yield. If you end up with nine females, you could be end up with a ridiculous amount! But it'll be tough fitting nine fully grown females in the space you have available...and I figured you'd end up weeding out some males, slow growers, etc.
You could just transplant one female into a huge container, vegetate her forever, and harvest a pound...or more. This would be much easier done outside, but the point is, you control the end result. You seem to have everything you need to grow some nice plants. As long as your environment is controlled and maintained, you should have nothing to worry about, and will soon have a success story of your own.
Opie & tryn both made great points. Spend a little while researching ways to maximize your yield on these forums. You might get lost, like I did!(And trynagethigh, that scrog grow was pretty damn impressive!) Also, if you have another light that could vegetate a mother plant and keep her healthy, think about a starting a sea of green, and getting a continual harvest every couple of months.
Either way, have fun and good luck on your grow!:rastasmoke:

Yes of course, like I said 1000 watts would be better, it's just that most people would probably do 600 in that space. 1K watts will get real hot, and it will heat up that space real quick. You will need to spend a bunch more money on ventilation than if you went with 600. Of course 1K will cost much more in electricity. Also don't forget that besides the initial added cost of the bigger ballast, bulbs last a year or less, and the bigger they are the more they cost.
If you want big dense buds then grow a variety that produces those, and use a hydroponic grow method with the proper nutrients.
