Using a pipe without a screen.

Does anyone who uses a pipe without a screen have tips to keep ashes/embers out of your mouth and throat? For some reason using a screen is annoying to me, and when friends would always use one for some reason I found it irritating to see them fiddle with it. Anyways, especially at the end when you would get the popper if it were a bong, I sometimes get chunks of ash or burning material in my mouth and it tastes disgusting as hell. Thanks for any info. ipe:

I use to not use a screen.I'd just pinch of a chunk of bud and light up. But know I grind my weed and so I have to use a screen. It burns alot better ground up.

drop a pebble (one that wont fit through the bowl hole) in it.
or if you can find a glass screen for a pipe..
toke the bowl, breath deep boy[COLOR=\"Orange\"], yes then we pray...

I personally always grind my weed and don't use a screen. Just smoke like a normal person, I just smoke it like a normal pipe as someone would do with tobacco. Or just get a better pipe with twists or sections that converge at points to reduce the chances of getting a pull through. Forgive me if this was poorly worded.:smokin:

A small stone will do the trick.

well when you get ashes and embers in your throat, it usually means that the bowl is pretty much kicked or about to be. soooo...best thing to do would be to smoke without a screen, and just learn to realize when the bowl is about to be kicked so you don't get any nasty embers or ashes in your throat....another thing that contributes to knowing when you're bowl is kicked is just to know your piece. the more you smoke out of your piece(s), the more you know them and can tell when they're about to be kicked.

    hopefully that helps

    happy toking!!!

Naw, Delta9, I understand you perfectly. So is that what those little tiny jacks and stuff at the headshop are all about? I guess a small rock would be about the same.

You can either use a chunk of a nug, or a small piece of bud stem, just make the holes as small as possible.
A good natural screen is 2 small pieces of stem forming an X over the hole of the pipe.

I normally just stick a stem in the hole. Try to find one that is thick enough. It'll let the air through, because it doesn't normally make a tight fit...
