    Soak rockwool without knowing PH?

Is there any way I could soak rockwool without knowing the PH is 5.5? For instance... is there a bottled water company that has a PH of 5.5 ?

    Soak rockwool without knowing PH?

Okay well I looked up the PH of Ice Mountain bottled water.. says its 6.98 on the internet...

so i added about a little less of half of a bottle cap of ph down to hopefully bring it around 5.5... I have no way of measuring what the PH is after though

does that amount for about 1 and a half bottles of drinking water seem right to bring it from 7 to 5.5?

Go to Wal Mart and get a liquid pH tester in the pool or fish section. It will do for now, but eventually you will want an electronic one for ease. I would say if you added a half a cap to a bottle and a half of water, your pH is probably way below 5.5. Don't get hasty, take your time and do things right or the end product will suffer.

For crying out loud, people. You cannot do hydro or soilless without some way of measuring PH. You shouldn't even try it in soil. A digital PH pen is $20 and a regular dumb-ass kit is about $6. Do not buy rockwool, nutrients, a fan, a ballast, or any other damn thing until you have a PH pen or test kit figured into your budget and are committed to purchasing one soon.

What the hell, am I in the twilight zone over here? Newbies, listen to this and listen good: Attempting a hydro grow with some way to test PH is analogous to saying, "Gee I really need to get to that place within the next 30 minutes. That place is 35 minutes away by car. There's no possible way that I could come up with a car at this point, but what the hell. I think I'll put a whole bunch of effort into it anyway."

Good luck with that, and don't come crying to me with your problems if you try it.

this is an oldish post but..
i was awaiting the calibration fluid that didn't come along with my ph pen (go figure) and was just wondering if there was a certain bottled water with a certain ph level.. thats all.

Illusion, I'm sorry that I made you feel bad. I know everybody has to learn their stuff for the first time at some point. My rant is not at you in particular. It's just that I hear the same thing over and over. You have a good excuse, but most people say something like "I can't afford to buy a PH test kit at this time, but I've got some G-13 seeds that I urgently need to get going and into my Rainforest, and then into my NFT system with dual 1000 watt lights. How can I get around checking the PH of stuff?"

    Cart before the horse, baby.

And just so you know, there are many strengths of PH up and down, so when you tell us you added a capfull or something and ask if that's OK, there's not really a way to answer your question. I just bought a gallon of down, and it's 10 times (I think) stronger than my previous brand. If you could tell us the strength of what you used there would be a better chance of getting an answer, but even if it happened to be the same strength as what I've had experience with, I'm not sure I could answer your question. Anyway, a little FYI 4U.

Great, now I feel like a bully. I'm sorrrrry (in a Pee Wee Herman voice). I was in a bad mood and not feeling myself when I stumbled across this thread, and ended up sounding more harsh than I prefer. Forgivsies?

It will come. Don't worry. Patience.

The best thing you can do to avoid frustration is to read read read. This forum is a great start, and there is a bunch of good info elsewhere on the internet. Both the cannabis facts above and the qrow faqs in the grow lounge are excellent reading material. Beginners or otherwise.

With a good PH meter and some good quality nutes and taking the simple advice from the veterens on this forum you cant go wrong unless you are a total retard. Growing soiless is easy as taking candy from a baby just follow the simple rules and you will reep the rewards!

I use the Milwaukie SM802 meter and 3 part Advanced Nutrients with Cal Mag + for the veg then kick in some Big Bud for flower stage then flush with Flora Kleen

    Smooth Sailing no brainer process!

    Just my 2 cents

    Peace
