Weird japanese shit! When I was living over there I was dating a local girl who thought it would be great to test out my american bowels, we went to a resturant and she ordered for me, the appeitizer was a piece of tofu. They put the tofu in a cup of water, then put a bunch of little fish in the cup with the tofu. They then heat the water just to the point where the fish burrow into the tofu to get away from the hot water, and as soon as that happen they take the tofu out of the cup and serve it to you, with the live squirming fish inside of it. I got down on bite then rushed to puke.

That...is fuckin awesome. I'm real big into Japan, have been since I was 12 or 13 and I have to say...thats one of the coolest dishes I've ever heard. I mean, not on normal things like taste but on texture and sheer "I have to eat that?!"

I wouldn't have been able to do it. I would have, however, much enjoyed watching someone ELSE try to eat it, ie, you. haha

I got a feeling those aboriginals were just screwing with you. No one eats that stuff, "except for white man we tell tastes like chicken". But good on you for doing it!!

For me... I've done the live goldfish in a glass of water thing. That was more than a little weird... a few dead bugs (also on an excursion tour... I think the joke was on me!). I've eaten octopus, alligator and rattlesnake before... but they were cooked so that doesn't really count.

I think you take the cake with your big grub, Kenn!

    Cheers,

    El Fantistico :smokin:

Yep, the freakiest thing I've eaten is fried crickets in Cuernavaca, Mexico. Not all that freaky a thing to eat. Lots of cultures eat insects, but American and northern European palates have gotten accustomed to higher-level sources of animal protein over the centuries. The crickets were lemony and crunchy and not very substantial. I've also eaten fried ants before. When I was a kid my grandad would cook up pork brains with scrambled eggs, so I've had those. I've also had frog legs, which aren't very freaky, either.

I love to watch that show on the Food Network called "Bizarre Foods." That guy eats some really freaky stuff. Some of the huge grub worms and/or rotten wood worms he's tried in Asian countries won the prize for freakiest, I think.

Most definitely he eats such odd things. He looks like such a jolly man kind alike white Buddha(the marketed symbol not the actual spiritual leader)

I've eaten Southern food and I'll leave it at that.
