    Hey, Image Reaper!

Need your input on this...or anybody else's opinion...please...

I kept 10 WW seeds stored in the butter dish area of my refrigerator...since last Christmas..in a pill bottle...half full of dry rice.

Last Saturday...(3 day after, full Moon)...I tried to germinate 2 seeds...directly into the soil. 5 days later..nothing. So..I tried germinating 4 seeds in wet tissue...nothing.

Then...I threw..the last four seeds into the soil...two days before the new moon, one of the latest seed, plus one of the old seeds germinated...go figure.

Only problem is ...they a 1/2 inch apart, in the same pot. I guess I will separate...when they get a little stronger.

Question is...Do I need to rethink my seed storage methods?...I like keeping seeds on hand...(because of the mail system problems)...I like to order ...way in advance....or should I wait, and order seeds ..at the last moment?

    ...a little something ...I ran across...below...

    Hey, Image Reaper!

Maybe ...I should have brought them..up to temp...before trying germinating?

Like you said...no telling how old they are ...to start with.

    Hey, Image Reaper!

    Hey Dutch,
Sorry about your method not being as you expected....I have seeds from the 80s in a pill bottle in my desk...so I soaked them 24hrs and lo and behold several popped...This amazed me....Now if they only keep living...Tho its bag seed, its got to be of quality or I wouldnt have kept them...We'll see what happens...They are supposed to be Hawaiian from that time period....

I have even kept a few in the freezer of this batch, but have never gotten any to pop...Why now would a few pop? I dont know...

    Peace,
    Treetops

    Hey, Image Reaper!

yup, you did it right ... as previously mentioned, I would suggest they may have been getting a bit old when you received them ... freezing isn't the best, if not 100% dry, they can burst when they freeze ... fridge is cold enough ... I just pulled 15 out of my fridge a couple weeks ago, they all germinated overnite, but they were my own seeds, only a few months old ... also, if two are growing together in one pot, you may be better off to just snip one, keep the better of the two ... it's really hard to seperate them, likely to kill both ... c:jointsmile:

    Hey, Image Reaper!

    IR...what's your "standard" germinate method?

Well, after 9-13 days of trying to germinate 10 seeds...two popped Tuesday (the two that ended up close together, don't ask me how that happened :i feel stupid:...then one popped Thursday. then one today, Friday. That's 4 out of 10 seeds...not a very good showing for me.

To tell the truth...I think the only reason they germinated at all...I sprayed the seeds, Monday, with hydrogen peroxide and threw them back in the pot and watered with root stimulator mixed in.

This all got started, Sept 30, I just wanted to germinate 2 seeds, to test a new light bulb I bought....:stoned:

    go figure

    Hey, Image Reaper!

I usually just use the standard paper-towel method, after a few hours of pre-soaking ... I use city tapwater, or add a couple drops of chlorine bleach ... peroxide is OK too ... I put it on something about 85 degrees (my DVD player/amp) ...
... but, the last couple groups of seeds were done in rapid-rooters in my bubble cloner ... works GREAT ... first experiment, I just blindly dropped dry seeds into the plugs, and 13 out of 15 germinated, and sprouted in the plugs, about the 3rd or 4th day ... the second time, I pre-soaked them for a few hours, and placed them correctly into the plugs ... 15 for 15  ...
