it's definately worth it, but it does have some, moderately steep requierments (if you got a good gaming pc you'll be fine, but i remember when itcame out like three years ago and peopl ehad to basicly rebuild their computer from ground up just to play it.... and that was just at the medium detail level.... i'm running core 2 duo, 2 gigs ram, radeon x1950 pro extreme (256GB) and can run it at full perfectly)

too bad =/ it's definately a game for those who want to be creeped out... not just doom fans.... the actual minimum requirements are:
windows 2000
pentium IV @ 1.5 GHz or AMD Athalon XP1500
384 MB ram
2.2 GB for install (more for saves, but prolly less than 1 mb lol)
8x CD ROM drive
video card and sound card that supports direct x 9.0b (minimum video cards: ATI radeon 8500/NVida 3TI series)
not that steep by today's standards.... like isaid, back when it came out people had to rebuild their computers....

There's also an expansion for Doom 3 slip, so don't forget to grab that and play it after you beat the first game, it continues on with the events that occurred in the regular Doom 3, it's not as long but just as fun.
I have it for Xbox so I never had to worry about specs. From what I remember reading they also made a few modifications to the Xbox version which made a number of people prefer it over the PC version.
Sadly there's a number of people that don't like it because it's "standard FPS" formula. But then upon asking a lot of those that I encounter with that opinion I come to find out that they didn't cater to the games atmosphere. They'd played during the day or with the lights on, they didn't use surround sound, they had other people around...
I try to tell them this game is more about atmosphere, the gameplay is straightforward and nothing new, but it's very solid you just have to get into the games mood. You have to play in the dark and alone and if you have surround sound all the better. You know you've set yourself up correctly when you find yourself scared to walk into the pitch black room up ahead or around the corner...
Not much has came out since that compares to it. Prey tried to emulate it but it just didn't have the same flair, it's a fun game but nothing special. In fact the only FPS since that I've played that is just as creepy is Bioshock. Well there is Condemned but it's a FPMelee game moreso than a FPShooter, quite creepy though.
