This is going to be a long process, i am going to start preparing during this winter and start the process as spring comes.

i am just so fucking feed up with this world where it is so hard to make a living and that money is everything.

    That is my plan

Your plan is my husbands dream. We are already country but the burbites are starting to invade us.
Almost time to sell and Montana, here we come.

It would be neat to have a little cann.com community.:smokin:

Unknown American, now that i know you have been there, im sorry for over-reacting to your post... my apologies.
There is here in brasil lots of places like this one you described, without even drinkable water, mainly at the northeast region... so i understand what you mean.
Also, i understand your point in saying that maybe its not what he really wants... many people have indeed a very "romantic" view of how would be to live in the country, with peace, singing birds and so, without thinking about how it actually could be.
IMHO i think losing some conforts is very worth... of course there is (a lot of) people who simply COULDNT live without internet, tv, or electric light... but also there is ones who doesnt care about it... so, its a matter of choice, or likings...
Anyway, for the original poster, good luck! I hope you find a nice place and have lots of every growable strain of weed!:stoned::rastasmoke:

I dream of this! You see, we really could have a Utopia if we wish. You just need like minded people. I would rather a barter economy than capital.

Yes growing your own bud and food is great. No bills or car payments. I hate cars anyway. i'm not a material girl!

Me, I would grow veggies, and fruits and nuts. No animals for food. I couldn't kill animals for food. Chickens are cute.

They would be handwoven. Our houses will be from hemp and so will clothes. It would be cool. It would be cool to have Greek hemp togas!

Tired of this world as it is

i think a lot of 'heads feel this way. sure i know a bunch of frantic overachievers that still enjoy their j's now and again, but most of would like to just chill in a world where just chilling IS THE MOST EVILEST THING EVAR.

a portion of the generation before me REQUIRES a 9 to 5, then they come home at night, crash hard in front of reality tv on big lay z boys for a few hours with some super high calorie snacks and bitch a bit then repeat it all in the am. my parents are this way. they are cool people but theyre mortal enemies of leisure that isn't on paid vacation time.

suffering makes people feel 'alive' in some weird way i guess, and 'the grind' serves as validation for people who feel like they need to validate their existence when its all just luck that we're here anyways=p but mostly i think that its been this way so long for so many people that its all they know really.

but they think i am nuts, my parents. i am self-employed and barely get by, but im super happy most of the time. i dont stress about work more than is necessary. they wonder how i can sit outside on the porch and smoke cigs and just not worry about anything. they are so accustomed to western civ that they just do it every day like its alright i guess. they seem happy enough, married a loooong time now and ive never seen them so much as raise their voice at one another. honestly they deserve an award.

am i a huge bum to my parents? i guess man, nobodys perfect, but im happy and i dont bother anybody. i dont take what isn't mine. i try to help out a little when i can and do minimal mooching.

i think they are catching on finally. theyre tired too. they want to move out west with a little bit of money and just relax. but i dont want to wait till im near 60 to enjoy my damn life. i already started:rastasmoke:

You have to buy land. Unless you pay cash you are going to have payments. Then there is real estate taxes.

It is going to take you at least a year or so to get crops growing. You will have to buy seeds, fertilizer and other stuff. You will need food to survive until your crop grows.

Do you like using the Internet? Then you need electricity and and Internet account. More monthly expences there.

Have you ever farmed? It is a little more complex than it seems.

You will need a car to get supplies. That means you will need insurance.

It is understandable how you feel, but is that really what you want?

I suggest before you do something that radical, go to a third world country and volunteer. Then you can learn what it really means to be without all the comforts of a western society.

Best be careful what you want, you might get it.

Adding to what Unknown American has already said:

Farming IS hard, what are you going to do when you get too much or not enough rain one year and most of your crops die? How are you going to keep out of season fruit veg to last all year? I hope you like living off dried/salted food because you wont have enough electricity to be able to freeze them.

Do you have any experience with solar/wind energy? Solar power is not only expensive to start but is very unreliable. Wind is even more unreliable. Unless you have a LOT of solar panels/turbines, you wont be able to keep lights/refrigerators/computers/air conditioning going. And if one breaks it will be a long walk to get spare parts and then find someone who wants to trade them for a goat.

Its a nice idea to live away from everyone and everything but it could take years of practice/training/learning to be able to manage anything more than living in a drafty ramshackle hut freezing in winter and boiling in summer eating whatever you can find.

If you are REALLY serious about this, then spend time learning about wind/solar power, farming, how to preserve food, how to build things, animal care and butchery and husbandry and ofcourse, not going crazy living on your own in the wild somewhere.

Getting off the grid and living a simple life isn't that difficult. It just takes planning.Buying the right piece of land with good southern exposure for crops and solar power and solar hot water.A small creek for a water source for drinking and driving a small turbine generator.Enough batteries hooked up to the grid for the lean times.Good timber about about 10" to 14" for a log house.A lot of people have done it. It just takes some planning.
