Wickerbill, we mods don't have the ability to look into people's reputation comments they're receiving, but when we get instances of "rep abuse," which consists of people trolling others' rep functions and leaving hostile or inappropriate comments there, we very much want to hear about that and ask that you touch base with us via email (our addresses are in our profiles) and copy the exact comment and rep-abuser member name so we can see who's doing that. We had an example recently of a long-time member using the reputation system to call people names that he knew full well wouldn't be allowed on the boards in print because it would be considered an instance of a flaming insult and break the rules. Interestingly, it's considered the same thing when it's done through the rep system. Once someone had shown us what he'd been doing, we took care of the problem.
If it's any reassurance, we mods feel the effects of rep-trolls, too. It is indeed one of the drawbacks of a rep system, or an online discussion forum itself, that it sometimes encourages the less-than-courageous types who don't have the cojones to leave an open objection on a thread in which they disagree to take a more cowardly passive-aggressive approach and voice their displeasure through the rep system. It's perfectly fine for someone not to agree with any of us. In fact, I rather enjoy it when that happens. But it certainly does say a lot about character and backbone when the disagreeing party hasn't been a part of the conversation with which they've disagreed in the first place.
Anyway, I feel your pain. I'm sorry that happened to you. If you need any one of us mods to look in the problem in more detail, we'll certainly be happy to. Flaming insults are flaming insults no matter how they're conveyed.\"That best portion of a good man\'s life: his little, nameless, unremembered acts of kindness and love.\"
