And particularly Hello to Lady Jane, Binger, and others with whom I've had the pleasure of communicating outside the friendly confines of these pages....

I'm thinking about going to Amsterdam for this November's Cannabis Cup. I realize that this would be nearly last-minute, but I was not made aware of my vacation window until recently.

What say you?

Should I buy a judge's pass, or will wares be available and plentiful without it?

What's the cheapest way of travelling there and back? I'm highly flexible in manner and hour of travel.

Are there hostels available around the town?

I've done plenty of travelling, but have never been to Europe. Any advice from fellow curious astronauts, especially those who have enjoyed Cannabis Cup, would be appreciated.

I will be in Amsterdam ( and Haarlem ) from Nov 8 -21 ( see the Whos In Town page ), so will be there for the beginning of CC. I was a judge in 1995. It was fun, but once is enough. I find Amsterdam to be more enjoyable without the CC hoopla. You can buy day passes to most events. This year most of the events will be at Powerzone, a place out in the suburbs.

I like my direct flights IAD to AMS and return was $610 all inclusive. IcelandAir sometimes has good fares and you get a break in the middle. They often offer a free night or two in Reykjavik on the way to or from.

Hostels aplenty, just Google Amsterdam hostel.

If you do decide to go, give me your dates when you get them and I'll post you on the Whos In Town page.

I'll be there too. Nov 7 for four weeks.
You don't need a judges pass to get weed in Amsterdam. All you get with that is the Cannabis Cup activities.
Any weed the judges can get, anyone can get.

Thanks very much for the responses; they are invaluable. I'll look into Iceland Air, and I won't bother with a judge's pass. Seems to me to be a bit overkill anyway. I just want to go, check out the city, have some weed, and soak in a different place on this globe.

My main issue is the lateness with which I'm trying to do this. Like mentioned, only recently did I discover that I'm getting this vacation around this time.

I'll really try to go -- the main factor is getting airfare as inexpensively as possible -- and I thank FBN and PSteve for the knowledge. (Anyone else got anything positive to toss my way?)

On and off until 1/December.
I'll be in A'dam for sure from Nov. 16th to the 27th.
Otherwise, I might be in Den Haag or Arnhem or Delft or who knows where. Probably Amsterdam about half the time.
