    It Hurts

I crashed the shit out of my motorcycle a couple days ago. I was being stupid and passing where I shouldn't have been. Oncoming traffic came from round the curve I thought I could see around. It shoved me back into my own lane too quick. I veered to the right and couldn't get back to the center of my lane fast enough. I brushed the curb at about 70 MPH. I don't know exactly what my bike did once I hit he curb. I (my body) slid about 30 feet from the impact point on my left side, up against the curb. Thanks to a full face helmet, I still have a face. I can distinctly remember seeing the curb scraping the face shield as I slid down the road.

I was lucky nothing was broken. I was able to get right up and started dragging my bike out of the road. the shock wore off a couple minutes later and I sat down on the curb. Looking at my bike, you'd wonder how the hell I survived in the first place, much less was able to get right up and drag a motorcycle out of the road. The frame was broke in two and the rest of the parts were spread all over the road. I didn't realize exacly how bad I was hurt til I got to the hospital. Like I said, I didn't break anything but my entire left arm from fingers to shoulder was scraped up (road rash) really bad. It felt like my skin was on fire all night last night.

I went back to the hospital yesterday to get antibiotics and pain killers. I'm still hurtin' pretty bad right at this moment. Still feels like my skin's on fire, even after taking some good pain pills. I would have been fine (maybe a couple light bruises) if I was wearing full body gear. Motorcycles aren't really as dangerous as they're made out to be. All I did was fall from my seat height and slide down the road. Long as you don't hit anything solid, you should be fine, if you're wearing your gear. So my moral is motorcycles are the most fun I've ever had in my life. Wish more people rode them. But ride safe. And I can't wait to get a new one. I'll post some pics of me and the bike when I get some.

i think they are as dangerous. im not saying they should be illegal, but ive always thought get in a fender bender with a car, thats all it is. get in a fender bender with a motorcycle, there might be a dead body involved. from what ive seen the only real argument, which is still weak as hell, motorcycle people have is that no accident invlolving a motorcycle is the fault of the person on the bike, and that motorcycle riders are better at driving their bike than you are driving your car. gimme a break is all im saying.

good for surviving though. makes that avatar seem pretty eery.

You must live in Nevada. Nevada has 70 MPH speed-limits, don't they?

    edit: 70 MPH, 30 feet. I would've thought 100 feet, or more.

Usually depends on how hard you hit the car with your body. Hitting the road and sliding isn't dangerous if you wear your gear. Long as you're not being stupid and flying down the road much faster than the flow of traffic, there should be no reason you hit somebody that hard. Unless somebody pulls out in front of you, which did happen to me once. But since I wasn't hauling ass where I shouldn't have been, I missed the car.

I hear ya on that one. I'm not saying that. I'll be the first to tell ya it was entirely my fault. And that I can't ride well enough to do the things I do (or did) on that bike. And most people have many more years experience driving their cars than I do riding my bike. And that driving is much much easier than riding. So I won't claim that. And the people that are saying that are not the good bikers. Good, smart bikers do realize when they can ride and when they can't.

No kidding. Didn't realize that. Gives me a good reason to keep it.
