Backward capability is not important for this generation gaming. The is a drastic difference from graphics and gameplay from last gen to this gen. People with a ps3 won't say "hey, let me get that ps2 or ps1 game for my ps3"
Let's go to the wii. What has the wii to offer?
-Laughable last generation graphics (compared to the 360 or ps3)
-No HD capability, which in a couple of years is going to be EVEN bigger than it is now.
-They will rely on the 10000000 zelda and mario games they put out.
Face it, the wii is done for once people get bored of its new controller. And in ALL my experiences playing the wii (different ones) that controller was buggy as hell. The one thing that will give the wii another popularity boost is smash bros.
By the end of 2008, the wii will have its console for sale at 125$ with smash bros included. That alone will not lead it to victory in the console war. It's out.
The classic library you mentioned is quite frankly an attempt for more buyers. Emulators are free.
You are a hardcore gamer, the Ninteno Wii's target audience are casual gamers. Comparing the Wii to the PS3 or 360 is an apples to oranges discussion. You and other hardcore gamers may get bored with the Wii, but many people are not, and the thing is still hard to find in stores. In Japan the Wii is selling 4 times more than Sony is selling their PS3, pretty amazing for a company everybody thought was on their last console, (including me). lol Of course the funny part I find is that as bad as the PS3 is selling in Japan, it's still blowing away the 360 sales numbers haha

btw that info comes from game devolopers... not stand alone researchers, nor either company....
My point was that because the PS3 is so difficult to develop for, most developers simply won't spend the time figuring out how to tap into the rest of the power. It could be a billion times faster than the Xbox 360, but if they can never make the graphics that much better looking than the 360, why does it matter other than somehow justifying the ridiculous price?
But to be honest, I don't care about Xbox 360 vs PS3 arguments. Each system has a need for certain people, and I really don't care who buys what. Besides, I want all 3 systems for various reasons, so just because I have a 360 for my icon thing, (sorry, brainfarted and can't remember what that's called), doesn't mean I'm some crazed Microsoft fanboy...I just happen to like that system enough to make it into a graphic.
