Inspiring words
I'd like to start a thread devoted to spiritual inspiration.
Feel free to post quotes by others or yourself, but I'd like to ask that no one starts or holds debates in here.
That said, here are a few quotes I'd like to start with:
"A human being is part of the whole, called by us the "Universe," a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts, and feelings, as something separated from the rest--a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circles of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty." - Albert Einstein
"Happiness is your nature. It is not wrong to desire it. What is wrong is seeking it outside when it is inside."
...
"That inner Self, as the primeval Spirit, Eternal, ever effulgent, full and infinite Bliss, Single, indivisible, whole and living, Shines in everyone as the witnessing awareness. That self in its splendour, shining in the cavity of the heart. This self is neither born nor dies, Neither grows nor decays, Nor does it suffer any change. When a pot is broken, the space within it is not, And similarly, when the body dies the Self in it remains eternal."
...
"Your own Self-Realization is the greatest service you can render the world." - Ramana Maharshi
"If you want others to be happy, practice compassion. If you want to be happy, practice compassion." - Dalai Lama
"The Kingdom of Heaven is inside you and it is outside you.
Split a piece of wood, and I am there.
Lift up the stone and there you will find me." - Jesus of Nazareth
"You can search throughout the entire universe for someone who is more deserving of your love and affection than you are yourself, and that person is not to be found anywhere. You yourself, as much as anybody in the entire universe deserve your love and affection." - Buddhaafghooey Reviewed by afghooey on . Inspiring words
existence only matters as much as we make it matter, for if we did not think it mattered, it would never matter.
paraphrased:
nothing that ever has happened, ever could happen, and ever will happen has any meaning more than we mentally and emotionally assign it.
the genocide of the jews is of no more consequence than blowing one's nose; apart from the meaning(s) we assign these events, as we, as humans, have no control or power over true meaning. our emotions drive the purpose of the universe in our "own little worlds".
