My periods were hellish, too! Because of the IUD, they lasted 7-8 days! Menopause was a relief- even without adding hormones that the doctor pushes. I'll stick with my own hormones or lack there of, thank you! The hot flashes are a drag, but bearable, plus they are lessening as time goes on, both in frequency and strength. Don't fear menopause! It ain't that bad! - Granny:hippy:

I used to have horrific periods. I'd bleed like no tomorrow, I was hot, I was cold, I was shaky, I got cramps in my thighs and I threw up. It was terrible. But now I take birth control that gives me 4 periods a year, and even thought all the pain isn't gone, it's much better and I only have to deal with it once every 3 months.

I like being a woman, but my period never seems to come at a convenient time. Last week when you posted this thread, Hilder, I was due at the hospital early the next morning for a minimally invasive surgical procedure to fix my heart rhythm problem. I knew my period would start for real the next morning, just about the time I was due on the procedure table, but one of the preliminaries of the procedure is that you receive a huge injection of a powerful blood thinner before they begin inserting catheters. I was going to hide the tampon string and try to slip onto the table without telling anyone I was on my cycle, but my husband informed my cardio-electrician when I was in the bathroom that I had started my period, and they arranged to give me something at the end of the procedure to reverse the action of the heparin.
Anyway, long story short? When I woke up after 7 1/2 hours of anesthesia and five subsequent hours flat on my back waiting for the catheter sites to seal sufficiently closed, even with the reversal of the heparin, it looked like someone had shot a deer in my bed. Then I had two days of cramps in the hospital after that. Not fun. No one in hospitals wants anyone wearing tampons with all the nasty bacteria that are rampant in those places and the added risk of sepsis. So I got to enjoy pads that whole time, too. I've been in hospitals three times in the last six months. Each time, I've had my period. This makes me look forward to menopause. Except, with my medical luck, it'll come and then I'll need a hysterectomy for some reason.\"That best portion of a good man\'s life: his little, nameless, unremembered acts of kindness and love.\"

yeah i had that happen a few years back.. i was in the hospital for a broken ankle and got my period after getting the screws in.. i was still with pediatrics cuz i was under 18... so i asked my sis to go get me tampons.. ive never ben a fan of pads.. so the nurse tells me i cant use a tampons cause blah blah... anyway so theres no pads in the bathrooms, or the gift shop.. i was gonna have my sister go get some from the store, and the nurse said they had some, but in the maternity ward and they bring some so my sister went home.. well it took her about an hour to bring ONE! those huge bulky uncomfortable bulks of cotton. ya kno what im talkin bout? and i was bleeding like crazy.. it was a mess.. lets just say i wasnt a happy patient.. and i made sure she knew i was pissed..

I only get my period every 3 months b/c of my birth control. And when I do its gone in about 2 or 3 days. But when I wasn't on birth control I would have the worst periods ever. With cramps that would leave me doubled over and crying. Horrible! I feel your pain hun. It freaking sucks!

youd think that sice its been proven that there is no medical reason to menstruate that evolution would have taken care of it by now. its that time again and i didnt get to get any ALL this month so its gonna be THE WORST PERIOD EVER!!!!!! damn it sometimes i just wish i could reach in there and yank it out. i had a dream that unless you had sex, you wouldnt get ur period.. that would be badass.. i certainly would still be a virgin.. if it would have been my choice of course. and worst of all.. i all I have are mids, and no chocolate..im gona go hide before i rip anyones head off...
