Heat is a *bad* thing. By standard do you mean an incandescent light? If so you need to replace it with a CFL (compact flouro light) - those are the energy saving flouro lights that coil in funky patterns and go in regular light sockets. Really you should have 1-2 CFLs per plant. CFLs produce far more light output in lumens than regular bulbs (which is very important) and are also much cooler. Pictures would be great - both of the plant(s) and grow area including lights so we can help make sure you are making the most out of what you have available.
When or if you get into more serious growing, there are HID (High Intensity Discharge) lights like HPS (high press Na) and MH (metal halide) that are even better than CFLs. For now though, whatever you do, get rid of any "regular" incandescent bulbs and replace them with CFLs.

yeah, heat bad. lol i have a 150w plant bulb that a roomate had used and one of my cfl burned out so i hooked it up. i have 1 cfl and the bulb on some seedlings, the plants actually streatch towards the 26w cfl instead of the 150w bulb. so i know i wont ever use one of these again.

Questions about my grow
Ok guys, I'll do it this time.........
Read, read, read.
You are asking the most basic of questions. I'm not trying to be rude. But try to understand that it is far faster for you to use the search feature in a given forum, than it is for you to post every single question on your grow from the beginning to the end, then wait for each answer.
The only point I'm trying to make here, is that the information your seeking already exists here. So we'd really rather not keep typing it over and over. When you come to a point where the answer you seek is hard to find, feel free to post it up, and the more experienced folks here will be more than happy to help.

CFLs are sold at just about any store that sells light bulbs. Wally world (Wal-Mart), Target, etc all sell CFLs. They are generally coiled in a spiral pattern or a loop pattern, and can range anywhere around 15-35 watts (26 is about the same as 100 watts incandescent) to 100 watts. The most common are around 20 watts and are about $14 each. 1-2 25 watt CFLs per plant is perfectly fine for a basic indoor setup. Attached is a picture of a 26 watt (= to 100watts) GE CFL.
