    Congress `Irresponsible' About Child Health

Sept. 29 (Bloomberg) -- President George W. Bush said a plan by Congress to expand a children's health insurance program is ``irresponsible'' and chided lawmakers for failing to pass spending laws to fund government.

``Congressional leaders have put forward an irresponsible plan that would dramatically expand this program beyond its original intent,'' Bush said in his weekly radio address. ``They know I will veto it.''

Bush also signed today a stopgap spending measure that continues funding federal agencies, wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and other programs at current levels until Nov. 16, buying time for lawmakers to act on regular spending bills.

Congress this week sent Bush legislation supported by Democrats and many of his fellow Republicans that would more than double the funds for the State Children's Health Insurance Program, known as Schip. The measure would add $35 billion over five years to the $25 billion program. To pay for the expansion, the federal tobacco tax would be raised to $1 a pack of cigarettes from the current 39 cents.

    Congress "Irresponsible" about being congressmen.
I don\'t grow weed, I think about growin weed, but I don\'t grow weed, I would grow weed if growin weed was legal, but its not, so I will bow down to the kings of congress, no matter how illogical, or irrational their money hungry decisions may be, because they are right, and I am wrong.

While I don't necessarily agree with this proposal, I find it humorous that you blame democrats for tax and spend policies. Do you think borrow and spend is better? Remember that it is a Republican president and congress that incurred more dept in one term than in the entire previous 224 years of our existence.

Oh, and btw, I don't agree with my tax dollars being used to fund the war in Iraq, corporate welfare or benefits for illegals and their anchor brats - how do I opt out of paying for those programs?

...or is it only neo-cons who get to say "I don't want my tax dollars going for this and that?

    Have a good one!

Not tax and spend but putting a larger tax on something that they feel is "bad for my health". When I read posts in here stating on how it'll be the dems to legalize weed it makes me laugh.

Iraq-National defense isn't really a debatable issue. Depends on the side of the fence ya sit on I guess.
Corporate welfare-that would make a good thread to discuss
Illegals-the only funding that should be done is building a wall and a catapult in my book.
