The tumbling motes of silicon
Fall steadily through the hole

But witness to their toll

They sit atop each other
Departing, one by one
Filling spaces left behind
'Til at last, they're done

Thousands become hundreds
In their inexorable release
And when I least expect it
The flow will simply cease

I'll shake the glass in fury
And curse Fate's evil hand
And watch the final journey
Of the last grain of sand.
