Lighting overkill?
My one flower room that i am setting up is around 120sq foot, the clones/seeds/young plants veg under a 400w MH would 2 600w HPS for 120sq be over kill or just about right on? I thinking right on, but other opinions are welcome, the other flower room (for special purposes) has a 1k HPS and is about 80sq ft and they do fine in there, but again, its only a few that are "specialty" plants.

Lighting overkill?
I was thinking of a 1k and 600w HPS for that room, but i wasnt sure if the difference between lights would have an effect on the growth. Since the lights would be on different sides of the room the light wouldnt be as even as a dual 600w. Think that would have an effect on the growth if i did a 1k on one side and 600w on the other?

Lighting overkill?
I suppose the plant may favor the brighter of the two, not sure about that one ... distance, etc., would influence that difference, so no biggie ... even so, it should be slight, and gradual, so turning the pots occasionally should remedy that ... :smokin:

You mean your room is 120 sq. ft. ?
Two 600 watt HPS's aint even near enough for an area that size. You're looking at 6-1000 watt HPS's or thereabouts. 1200 total watts means you are only going to have 10 watts per sq.ft.....
Multiply your sq. footage by minimum of 40, I use 50, and that will tell you what you need.
120 sq. ft. * 50 watts per sq. ft. = 6000 watts
Your two 600 watt HPS in combo would be good for around 24 sq. ft. ( 4' x 6' area).
You could divide that room up and make two flower areas of 20 sq. ft. and use 1000 watts in each area. That would give ya some kick ass results.

I think he used HxWxL as his equation not LxW.

Lighting overkill?
nope.. that's cubic foot.
Length x Width = square/ft
10 x 10 is 100 sq/ft
10 x 10 x 10 is 1000 cubic feet
you want to acheive lumens per square foot.

Lighting overkill?
LOL! Blink is right, think about it like this:
examples
LxW = 10ftx10ft = 100ft^2 (because it's a foot x a foot, or two feet, or feet squared)
LxWxH = 10ftx10ftx10ft = 1000ft^3 (because its a foot x a foot x a foot, or cubic feet)
Just remember, area is a plane and is flat, like the floor; area is always squared. Volume is 3-dimensional, like a whole room; volume is always cubic.
