Is a mh conversion bulb hotter then hps???
So I just started flowering and in doing so, I took out my mh conversion bulb and stuck my hps bulb in. It now seems that I am having a harder time keeping my grow area cool. Is one hotter then the other? From what I've read the only talk about heat production from lights seems to be focused on the wattage and not type. If it maters it's a 250w system. Thanks

With a 250w you shouldn't be getting that much heat to begin with. I use a 1000w hps and had previously used a 1000w MH with it until I switched to t8s and never had a difference with a switch in bulb.

I've read just the opposite ,
More often than not most posts / threads I've read claimed M/H ran hotter than HPS - but I'm not sure if these folks were talking std M/H or conversion ? I can't speak from exp. on this 1 . I run hortilux HPS start to finish . A conversion bulb for my lil 250w HPS costs what a bulb for my 1000's does so I've never messed w/ conversion bulbs .

With the igniter in in there and the pressure of the sodium bulb it tends to run 5-8 degrees (F) hotter than a metal halide which does not require "ignition".
Hope this helps.. I've always found HPS to run slightly warmer than MH .. but not by much.
Either way with a MH in there you should be ventilating anyway.. so the temp of a HPS should be as equally controllable.
