One Week Old, What Do You Think? (Pics!)

My plants sprouted one week ago. I had 9/10 germinate and 6/9 survive and actually sprout and grow leaves. The other three ended up just being stems with leaves that turned black on top of the stem. I'm not real sure what happened. The survivors have been under 24 hr light and they are watered every 6 hours for 15 minutes in an E&F system. I have noticed that their leaves are kind of curling or are scrunched up, so I increased the water to every 3 hours. Do you guys think that is a good idea?

EDIT: In the pics, the back left one on both pics have scrunched up/twisted leaves on one or both sides.

get your light-source closer ... mine stretch like that, too, but since I grow in soil, I will be burying mine deeper, into larger pots soon ... :smokin:

Yeah, the stretching happened in the first few days. I read a lot of conflicting info about how close to put the lights and had originally had them about 5 or 6 inches away. Right now they are about 1 or 2" away. I have two fans blowing on them and they seem pretty sturdy. Do you think that the stretching will be detrimental to their future growth? And does anyone have any input regarding the frequency that they are being watered?

I just changed the res water and added nutrients at 1/5 the recommended strength . I was also wondering I have to put the black foam things around the cups. I put too much hydroton in a couple baskets so they don't actually fit down into the cup. The roots are starting to show through the baskets so it is too late to readjust the hydroton. Do the black foam things matter that much?

Deja whats your ph been? I'm wondering if perhaps they are a touch OVERwatered....did increasing watering help or do they look the same?

My pH has been around 5.7-6.1. I check it every morning, evening after work, and before I go to bed and its never been outside that range. Since upping the waterings, I haven't noticed a significant change except one that I thought was dead has started to grow very very small leaves. Its also weird because it has roots protruding from the cup but a couple that are thriving don't even. Do you think I should drop back down to every 6 hrs?

Well, since I apparently can't get an answer from anyone, I went ahead and switched back to every 6 hours. The plants are really starting to take off. Hopefully they don't collapse due to the stretching.

I am kinda new to the wonderful game we all play...

But if I was you I would keep it at 18/6, get a fan in there blowing gently on the young ones to help increase the size of the stem for the long term, keep up the good job on the ph checking, keep the 1/4 nutes until week 4 ish (you'll be able to see where your plants are by then, and they will tell you  ), keep it watering three times a day, but you have to give a buffer and never water in the dark ( as for the buffer 2 hours before and after dark )

Lights come on at 6 am
    First water at 8 am
    Second watering at 4pm
    Third watering at 10 pm
    Lights off at 12 pm

You plants might be in shock with all the changing of light patterns, be patient and listen to your new babes, they have alot to say and show you OMG I was amazed what they do for me!

    Peace,
    Booya
