    the term "marijuana"

I read that the term "marijuana" was a term made up by William Randolph Hearst during his quest to put negative connotations on hemp. Therefore, I propose using the term "cannabis" whenever possible while referring to the herb.

no it's not true; i believe it has spanish or hispanic origins though: marihuana , but i couldn't tell you the actual history

hearst did indeed exploit the mexicans as "evil pot-smoking" people, who go crazy and rape your nice white women when they smoke weed

Nobody I know actualy calls it MJ , most call it weed, some call it ganja but there are dozens of names in common usage. Green is a firm fave in these parts of the UK.

    the term "marijuana"

Harry J. Anslinger gave Cannabis the name Marihuana to give off the appearance of a Mexican origin.

    Okay, I looked it up.
"The actual Spanish word for hemp is "canamo." But using a Mexican "Sonoran" colloquialism - marijuana, often Americanized as "marihuana" - guaranteed that few would realize that the proper terms for one of the chief natural medicines, "cannabis," and for the premiere industrial resource, "hemp," had been pushed out of the language." -from Jack Herrer's "The Empeoror Wears No Clothes".
I think what I read was wrong, but then again a lot of other people were too. Except that dude Redlocks thinks is so funny, for some reason. Good one Gothen.
