Yeah, the Mississippi Sound is part of the Gulf of Mexico. It's the coastal stretch from east Louisiana to Mobile that's separated from the larger Gulf by a long stretch of barrier islands.

That house got wiped away in the hurricane. Her dad sold her grandparents' house about three years ago, a year or so before the storm, because her grandparents were both gone by then and upkeep wasn't practical from Texas. When Pop and Nana were alive, they were a lot closer in Louisiana, but they'd been too old and frail to enjoy it for the last couple of years before Pop passed away in 2001. We younger ones all still went there at least twice a year though, and could always find people who wanted to rent it out the rest of the time. It was this great, big old, waterfront house with a wraparound porch that they'd had since Bird's dad was a small kid in the late 30s or so. Wonderful low-hanging oak trees and a great shady lawn. Heartbreaking that it's all just a memory now. Those lots where those oceanfront places were washed away are now selling for redevelopment for about 500K to 800K just for that empty land.
