    I'm in pain (Help!)

If you're really that frightened about the shot, you can tell them not to give you local anesthetic injections first. They are obligated not to give you a medicine if you refuse it. The problem is, when someone begins extracting a foreign body from your foot, you're going to have far worse pain than the lidocaine injection ever thought about being. You can also ask them to apply some cold spray or topical lidocaine gel to numb the spot before they inject you.

You won't be allowed to administer lidocaine injections to yourself, and you shouldn't attempt self-extraction of the glass. If you take a sharp object and begin digging around in your foot on your own, you risk getting a bad infection or injuring yourself more severely. Someone who knows sterile procedure with good light, a better angle, and suitable instruments needs to do the extraction to make sure the entire glass shard is removed and the wound properly cleaned and dressed afterwards. If you attempt it on your own and cause a wound infection, that'd make the ordeal you'll be facing far worse than what you're dreading now. Hilder is right. Cellulitis. Sepsis. Gangrene, even. Bad mojo, that stuff.

Just go. You'll be glad you did. Glass in the foot doesn't go away or stop hurting, especially if it's in a weight-bearing area. It just embeds itself deeper, which ultimately makes it worse to take out when you get around to facing reality.

dood...i got mashed into a brick wall by a damned car. at any given time i had at least 3 iv's in me, cuz others would stop working. i'm pretty sure they didnt have time to numb me before starting the iv's either...and then there's the pesky fact that they used a power drill to drill straight thru my leg while i was conscious.

hell, if that doesn't get you...i also had a shot in my effin spine when i was in labor w/my son...and i'm deathly paranoid of needles, and pain, and being afraid in general.

i've been in more pain than alot of people could imagine (although i do bow down to Xcrispi, he's got me beat in that catagory)....so really....seriously dood...just go get that shit taken care of. even if it does suck, you probably wont remember much of the pain afterwards....

moral of the story: grow a set and take care of your damned foot!!!

You've probably put yourself through the pain of a shot many many times over by walking on glass for 6 months.

I don't like shots either, but daaang kid, get yourself to a doctor! Close your eyes and think nice thoughts (girlfriend, your stash, how you won't be in pain much longer...) It isn't THAT bad!- Granny:hippy:

Honestly, just go to the doctor. Any sort of blood poisoning or infection is shitty, however small it is. It won't be that bad, just look away.

Ask them if you could have a topical (few drops of tetracaine 0r a little Hurricane freeze spray) before the lidocaine.

Suck it up and go to the doctor, they are there to help you. Do you think you are going to get better advice from a bunch of stoners on the internet or from a doctor?

    Yeah, man, get a doc!

A few shots in the foot of lidocaine is NOTHING compared to some of the needles that have been poked through my back to my spinal canal... :P

Be lucky you haven't contracted an animal bite with rabies- they're the WOSRT series of shots to go through. Damn...
