The problem with that statement is that most rappers are better than Lil Wayne, lyrically and flow-wise.

Once you get into the real hip-hop, you never go back. 5-6 years ago I probably would have liked Lil Wayne. Honestly, I'd rather listen to 50 Cent's pathetic raps than Lil Wayne's. At least he makes some sense

FIRST OFF... Weezy F. Baby is the best rapper ALIVE... he talks about real shit whether you can relate to it or not. SECOND Lil Wayne is a fucking lyricist from hell and since i have almost every mixtape he's ever been on (won the 2007 mixtape artist of the year btw) and his original albums (the carter I & II) i'm not your average saw him on "suckerfree" fan. One thing i must point out that you apparently don't know is that he has worked his way to the top as an "Independent" artist on his OWN record label Cash Money Records! I'm not speaking of style. I'm speaking about lyrics and flow. Oh, but you'll probably say that Lil Wayne's lyrics are part of the style. Too bad Lil Wayne's lyrics make almost no sense... therefore I think it's safe to say that it has nothing to do with style, and more to do with how much skill he lacks. And the skill that I say he lacks is not opinion, it's fact. If he is seriously "the best rapper alive" like many people say, then why doesn't he put out some rhymes that are above rhymes that a 5th grade could write? Come on, seriously... he's horrible. And for the record, it's not hip hop. You saying that it is hip hop just shows your ignorance about what hip hop actually is.

Dude you say he makes no sense but he is so high he doesnt even know what he is talking about. You can't blame a man for that. A good way to like him more is just stay as high while you are listening as he was when he recorded it.

Being really high doesn't give him an excuse for babbling about nothing and being as abstract as possible, which is what most of his lyrics consist of. If not, then it's a mildly clever rhetoric relating to either weed, cars, jewelry, or women. Yeah he sure is deeeep.

People don't want to pay money to listen to a skinny, spoiled, stoned kid rapping in circles. At least I don't. He had it made back when he was like 16 and even then his voice made me shudder. "All deez carrots like I'm a fuckin vegitarian..." eee gaaads man.

Bottom line: he has some catchy hooks, yes, but hey who doesn't have at least one. The only way he'll be remembered beyond the year 2010 is by either his uniquely annoying voice or "that one kid with Cash Money way back when." Other than that, he's a dime-a-dozen rapper as far as I'm concerned. The only difference is he has the money to get his name out there, so on and so forth.
