A.D.H.D.! Quick!!! (shove it in their faces)
first off, I have ADD (was officially diagnosed at age 10, but teachers since 1st grade had suspected it). I was perscribed dozens of pills, all of which helped me concentrate, but at the same time i felt like a zombie/crackhead (I never slept, ate, I always felt uncomfortable and jittery, I had absolutely no creativity, and I was just unhappy overall)
Anyways after a year or 2 of taking pills I started to expirament with marijuana, and i found that when I was on pills it completely took the side effects away... and after a while of doing this I realized that I didn't need the fucking pills (Which are basically crank pills).
About sophmore year of HS i completely switched to weed and never took an ADD pill again (one of the best/easiest decisions I've ever made). It helped me graduate High School, and is now aiding me in college. I get way more done at work while stoned and I have a lot more fun doing it. Marijuana also opened me up socially, I never had too many friends before i started smokin, but when I did I could chill with just about anybody from my school and have a good time....
Now I'm doing well thanks to the herb. And thank god I live in Cali (ADD is recognized as a disorder remedied by marijuana) for the medical laws.
I completely agreeI think it's important to know that to smoke for a positive effect with a person with ADD the right kind of weed has to be used. If the person is ADHD or hyperactive then an Indica strain of weed should be used. If the person is ADD and the opposite of hyperactive (this is what I am), the person should use a Satvia strain of marijuana for the most benificial effects.
I'm diagnosed with ADD and they gave me adderall for it. Adderall has worked for schoolwork and things like that, but at the end of the day I have a headache and I am disgusted by food. I find that every time I take an adderall i need to cancel out the negative side effects with weed.
You don't need the Adderall, my friend. It's a nasty drug and it's not worth it....

hey funknugget, how do you medicate yourself? I'm assuming your not hyperactive because of the "crank" pills they gave you. I usually smoke a small amount in the morning and take small hits throughout the day when I have enough supply and money, not to mention that but its hard for me to find sativa varieties, so i end up smoking indica and creating adverse effects. :/ I've reciently become interested in getting medication for ADD, and I'm getting tested at the end of this week. I already know im ADD, both therapists ive seen so far can tell just from looking at me, plus I can tell myself. But this new therapist who is like the only one in town whos on my insurance and taking new patients seems to be anti-weed. I've only seen her once so far, but she used to be in charge of some kind of pretrial program for juviniles who got in trouble with drugs (weed). She seemed to be very interested in my marijuana habits and dosages, etc. When I said i smoked everyday cause it helps me she was like ok well we're going to have to do something about that.
This has gotten me thinking, shes probably going to perscribe me stimulants out the ass and going to try to get me to quit smoking.
I have a better idea, since i've never taken adderal in my life I'll try it for a week or whatever and see if it helps alot. However, I don't really want to quit smoking, so if it doesn't work while im smoking then oh well (would this depend on it being sativa or indica?).
What I really want to do is move somewhere where I can get medical mary and medicate myself with cannabis sativa strains only. :/
It sucks having a disorder that some people don't even believe in, thats cured by a drug that some people believe has no medical qualities.

gogg- you're right, Im not ADHD, I'm ADD and there is a big difference. The H of course means hyperactivity, which I don't have, I just have trouble focusing on things and getting things done.
If weed really helps you aswell, you should go talk to a pot doc.... your normal doctor will not give u a medical recommendation guaranteed. Just go to your regular doc and tell him what's wrong. He will write down your symptoms and all that, so you have documentation of ADD/whatever condition. The pot doc will take a look at your medical records and ask you a few questions... and if he/she thinks marijuana could benefit you then they will write you a recommendation... then you can posess a certain amount legally and buy your medicine from any dispensary in your state (atleast that's how it is in cali). That way you can get whatever strain you need for your condition

man i was a ginnie pig for my doc while growing up i was on every drug there was for ADHD at one point and time everything from ritalin, concerta, adderall, dexedrine, strattera.
the only one that did ANYTHING was adderall i was on 60mg of adderall xr every day. i felt like a fuckin zombie i would sit in class and do nothing i wouldnt talk i would raise my hand i was so dam anti social on adderall it was crazy but hey thats what my parents liked cause i wasnt so active then. i didnt eat cause adderall KILLED my hunger. once i got into like 10th or 11th grade i tried meth for the first (and last time), it felt like i just took my adderall. so i said FUCK THAT and quite adderall went cold turkey off that shit and it fucked me up i went threw withdrawls from adderall even got sick as fuck.

This is from October, though it's more on 'substance abuse disorders'.

Prospective effects of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, conduct disorder, and sex on adolescent substance use and abuse.

CONTEXT: Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), an early manifestation of externalizing behavior, may identify children at high risk for later substance abuse. However, the ADHD-substance abuse relationship often disappears when co-occurring conduct disorder (CD) is considered. OBJECTIVE: To determine whether there is a prospective relationship between ADHD and the initiation of substance use and disorders, and whether this relationship depends on the ADHD subtype (hyperactive/impulsive or inattentive), CD, or sex. DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS: Dimensional and categorical measures of ADHD and CD were examined via logistic regression analyses in relation to subsequent initiation of tobacco, alcohol, and illicit drug use by 14 years of age and onset of substance use disorders by 18 years of age in a population-based sample of 11-year-old twins (760 female and 752 male twins) from the Minnesota Twin Family Study. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Structured interviews were administered to adolescents and their mothers regarding substance use and to generate diagnoses. RESULTS: For boys and girls, hyperactivity/impulsivity predicted initiation of all types of substance use, nicotine dependence, and cannabis abuse/dependence (for all, P < .05), even when controlling for CD at 2 time points. By contrast, relationships between inattention and substance outcomes disappeared when hyperactivity/impulsivity and CD were controlled for, with the possible exception of nicotine dependence. A categorical diagnosis of ADHD significantly predicted tobacco and illicit drug use only (adjusted odds ratios, 2.01 and 2.82, respectively). A diagnosis of CD between 11 and 14 years of age was a powerful predictor of substance disorders by 18 years of age (all odds ratios, > 4.27). CONCLUSIONS: Hyperactivity/impulsivity predicts later substance problems, even after growth in later-emerging CD is considered, whereas inattention alone poses less risk. Even a single symptom of ADHD or CD is associated with increased risk. Failure in previous research to consistently observe relationships between ADHD and substance use and abuse outcomes could be due to reliance on less-sensitive categorical diagnoses.

Hmmm pot would definitely work better IMO.
YouTube - Medical marijuana for ADD and its good for kids! (embed wouldn't work for me)
HAHAHA and I just took an online test to see if I have adult add, and the results were 91% percent positive that i do. Personally I think this is bullshit, the questions are so vague, and most people probably have it then, according to this test: *SARCASM*VERY ACCURATE TEST*/SARCASM*

I'm not even kidding, i'm getting a medicinal card for this!
I'm 16 and I have been diagnosed with ADHD since I was 7.
I read quite a few studies lately on ADHD and medical marijuana,
it really made me feel better though cause it confirmed my suspicion when I found i'm getting straight A's in highschool when i've been to school high for several days!

Alright guys, I'm back from the doctor. This was my 3rd visit. The last visit was the testing and this one was the results. I answered all the questions truthfully and the results came back pretty much 50/50 inconclusive. I blame the testing. I played a computer game that tested reaction time, on the results my RT was way better than kids with attention deficit, hmmm, i wonder why, oh maybe cause its just a computer game where you hit the space bar when the letter comes up (except for "X"). I don't really see what that has to do with ADD. As far as the questions, i think it would be hard to tell anything because I'm already self medicated. If anything the pot is helping, not hurting, and she thinks the reason my scores are low for attention and memory is because of weed. I also noticed the test said I have a "drug" problem because I answered that i smoked pot. Shouldn't a legit test be invalidated if someone answered that? Well, as part of the results she gave me a big lecture on pot and says she thinks the reason i'm having problems with attention is that i smoke every day, even though i told her i had the same problems, probably even worse when i was clean for a year and a half. Her visual aid for her lecture and the facts she read to me are here:
NIDA Drugs of Abuse and Related Topics - Marijuana
She also told me doctors in California (or anywhere in the US) cannot prescribe cannabis to anyone. It's illegal.
She didn't know there were 2 forms of the cannabis plant (indica and sativa). She also didn't know how to spell cannabis.... :O

I am a STRONG supporter of weed for ADD and ADHD.
I have ADD, and have had pills pushed in my face since i was 6. Im 28 now, I smoke it now to control my case and it is a NIGHT AND DAY difference.
It doesn't make me a super hero person, it just brings me to a level playing field as the others.
I still have to work on being a better husband and father.
Without it, it is hard to finsh tasks, temper can flair. The only thing that is bad is running out. Its in my system for 2 weeks, off for 3, on for a week, off for 2 weeks.. My body is saying WHAT THE F()CK
is going on..[COLOR=\"Red\"]
