This is what bothers me the most about Bush being president, even more than his policies (which I abhor for the most part). It was just so clear that Bush wasn't even close to being the most qualified or capable presidential candidate; he's never really had to work for anything in his life, and he's never really shown himself to be good at anything, be it school, business, etc.

The only reason Bush was elected was because the Democrats vastly overestimated the ability of the American people to make rational decisions regarding a presidential election. On the other hand, Bush's people made a concerted effort to shift the focus away from his readily apparent stupidity and appeal to the lowest common denominator by depicting Bush as a relatable, guy-next-door kind of guy, which is quite ironic considering how far removed George W. Bush has always been from the world in which the rest of us live (by "rest of us" I mean those of us who never had a parent become president and/or didn't have a family full of multi-billionaires).

To put it another way, what does it say about the overall intelligence and attention span of the voting public when the biggest complaints about Al Gore before the election were that he was "too boring" and supposedly claimed to invent the internet?
