I don't claim to know what that is, but I've been interested in it for a while.
When I trip, read "trip" loosely, it's really strong. It's a kind of rush up my spine that "condenses" with a roar in my head. As some others have mentioned, squeezing the third eye (big smile, scrunched eyebrows, raised ears) helps it "condense."
I did a big one right now. Ha!
Once I took a 15-minute nap and dreamed of an old man who was telling me something in rhyme -- I forgot the rhyme on waking, but the gist of the message was "always keep the roar in the back of your head, and you'll be ok."
I think it might be an awareness of what the yogis call prana. It's definitely something that accompanies deeper awareness.
Watch out if the "beat" happens on its own. Happened to my brother once while bicycling and he felt the need to slow down, narrowly missing a car wreck just ahead.
If you "squeeze" your eyebrows, face, ears, as described and get colored visual effects, let me know. I'm still wondering about those.
If you want to develop it, check out nada yoga -- sound yoga.

Yoga Sampoorna - Shri Yogi Hari - Nada Yoga
There's a lot there. Here's a quote, see where it takes you:
There are different levels of unfoldment in the experience of Anahata Nada. Successively, one will hear chinne chinne, the sound of the ocean, the kunch, the kettledrums, the drum, the lute, the flute, the harp and the clapping of thunder. In the practice of Hatha Yoga, as the Granthis are pierced, different sounds or vibrations are experienced, as explained in subsequent Slokas. But do not stop there because they are not the ultimate goal. They are just stages that are reached in oneā??s spiritual development. Every successive level is a sign that one is delving deeper and deeper within. The sounds charm the mind to dive into deeper levels of consciousness until one is able to pierce through the last veil and experience the Self without any conditioning.
And here you've been using it as a back-beat! HA! Whee

Can't seem to find anything online about practical nada yoga exercises. Just a lot of drum-beating. (Ha.)
But here's something I've done since I was little:
Listen to the highest pitch you can generate in your mind. Listen until it amplifies. It will then give way to another, higher pitch. This just keeps going, with concentration. I found out the hard way that one should be lying down; the really high pitches can knock you right over.
I was reading a book by Ram Dass when I was stunned to see that exact process described as a form of nada yoga. He said there were different states of mind associated with each pitch.
Enjoy.

Yeah I'm usually sucking my teeth (tsk tsk tsk sound) to the rhythm of a song and doing the bass in my head, lol. It's kind of natural now that I've been doing it for years..
yeshod, I haven't looked up the nada yoga stuff you mentioned yet because I'm just now reading up on the thread, but THANKS A TON DUDE! That sounds like some awesome shit to experiment with..
