Just be open and honest. The wifey and I are probably WAY too vocal. But do tell each other what you like, and instruct, if necessary. It helps a bunch when the other knows what the other likes/wants/prefers.

id rather the guy tell me and show me what he likes. ive never been upset if a guy said do this instead. communications the key to great sex, you have to be honest with each other about what you like. every guy/girl is different so its good when you have a new partner to show/tell them how u like it.
