I think I want to change my major................

So i'm in school right now for my liberal arts degree in history. I always figured that after I received my degree I would then move on and try to get a degree in Elementry School Teaching.

I love learning and school and I always thought teaching would be the way to go. However recently I have noticed that I don't think it's going to be possible. It's not my grades thats the problem and it's not the work that I would have to do that is troubling me it's the fact that to become a Teacher around here you will have to sub for a long time. One of the reasons is because since it's such a comfy job many of the old timers don't want to leave. Plus I think its too much work for not that much money.

So, I was thinking that I could become a dental assistant and maybe also try to get some classes in medical billing. I would end up getting almost the exact ammount of pay, I could then go to the community college around here and pay half of what I was going to for the teaching job.

I think that it makes sense. So what do you guys and gals think?

I'm planning on botany / botanical sciences.
Teaching would be hell, not enough money, etc.
anything that has anything to do with medicine is good +

if you'd be interested doing it, and feel accomplished in your work go for it... I have to decide another major once I'm done with my 2 year degree this spring. I'm not sure what I wanna do yet, I have always been saying I wanna study music business, but then I was thinking, I do really well in my english courses, so maybe journalism?

I origanally wante to do journalism but then I realised its not really realistic around where I live.

I would enjoy being a dental assistant. Its a job I could wake up into the morning to and actually be kinda happy to go. Plus I don't think I would be drug tested before hand.

I dont think it would be a very hard job either. Heres a list of things i'd have to do

Under the direct supervision of a dentist, prepares patient, sterilizes and disinfects instruments, sets up instrument trays, prepares materials, and assists dentist during dental procedures. Records medical and dental histories and vital signs of patient. Exposes dental diagnostic x-rays. May clean teeth, using dental instruments. May apply protective coating of fluoride to teeth. May be expected to perform some clerical duties relating to the department. Requires a high school diploma or its equivalent and 0-2 years of clinical experience and is certified as a dental assistant. Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Relies on limited experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks. Typically reports to supervisor or manager.

Yeah, and mostly you get off around 9pm at the latest, and some places have weekends off?

I applied to be one, but I didn't feel like spending a shitload of money to get my radiology certification class done...

Reb, do what you like to do. There is nothing better than going to work in a place you like, doing things you like to do, and, the best of all, being paid for it!
Being happy is what matters... life is too short, so enjoy it the best you can.

I think you should do the one that is more conveniant for you casue you can always take classes while you work, thats if you wana persue more. Thats what I do right now I have one class and thats for aircraft structure, its only 2 days a week and realy if I want I dont even have to show up just get good grades 0n the tests and do all the lab work. But its funn goin in twice a week.
