I think my cousin ripped me off

I went toque shopping the other day so I had to take a bus stop that I wouldn't normally use. I'm waiting for the bus, and this guy walks up to the stop, and we both kind of do double-takes but neither of us says anything. After a bit he turns to me and says "Excuse me, but does your name happen to be _____?" and I go "You're my cousin, aren't you!"

Anyways, total freak luck running into this guy, I haven't seen him in five years. We ended up walking around and talking for about an hour. Apparently he had a hard drug problem, including selling the shit, but he cleaned up a couple years ago and he's been trying to set his life straight, pay back the community etc. We agreed to hang out, he gave me his number (which is currently disconnected until he pays his phone bill) and email (which did work, although he checks it at a cafe every couple of days), said we should meet for drinks this Friday, and we parted ways. He was really friendly and concerned about how my side of the family was doing, but he also gave off very much a "hustler" vibe. He had connections though, and that's one thing we didn't have yet, and I'm not into paying $10 a bud.

He came down a couple days later to see my apartment and hang out. We talked family and gardening, I showed him some seeds and he got excited about possibly growing them for me. He set us up with an ounce from one dealer and a quarter from another. He said he could get the quarter that night for $45-$50 and come back and smoke a joint with me later, so I gave him the cash, figuring he wouldn't be stupid enough to rip me off for $50 if he knew he could get some seeds and a further $220 in a few days (I know, don't show green until you see green, but the guy seemed genuine enough). He didn't come back for two hours, then called and said he'd missed his bus transfer so he wouldn't be able to make it that night but he had the bud in his pocket. He emailed me the next day saying he'd bring it by around 7-8, but he never showed up, and he hasn't responded to the email I sent him Thursday or called in the meantime.

I'd like to trust the guy - he seemed genuine, and this seems like a very elaborate and thought-intensive setup just to scam fifty bucks. The thing is, the only thing I know for sure is his email and the bus stop I met him at - the phone line isn't connected, and I don't have his address, and at this point I'm not sure if his workplace or even the bars he said he frequents are the real ones. Apparently he got a new job in the gym of my university, which could make things awkward for him as my friend who's splitting the quarter with me goes there daily, but who knows if he lied about that or not.

I guess all I can do is wait and see, but it really sucks not knowing whether or not I've been ripped off. At least I'm only $50 stupid, not $270 stupid.

One thing's for sure, if he does get back in contact with me I'm going to find out as much about him as I can. It doesn't hurt to be well-informed. It's a sketchy situation right now.

A cousin scam you for $50 and disappear lol? I don't think he intended to scam you, but maybe once he had the money he just couldn't resist on spending it on something else. Now he won't respond to your emails cuz he doesn't have your money or your bud.

that is one weird ass story. meeting someone at a bus stop especially a long lost cousin. you should just do a search on his name to find out his address then throw a molotov cocktail through his window for not delivering the weed. people gotta learn when you mess with weed you mess with a mans emotions! lol
