OK, tip #1: Ask her on Monday or Tuesday, early enough that she can plan. Not sure how big a deal it is in your school, but that gives her long enough to do girly things like hair, nails, buying something cute to wear.

Do y'all do mums? I think it'd be fun to drop a couple of little hints. Like maybe give her one of those potted chrysanthemum plants they have in all the plant and grocery stores at this time of year. Tie it with a ribbon, maybe. She'll think, "What's up with this?"

You could do something like a scavenger hunt and lead her toward little clues having to do wtih homecoming, football, and/or parades. At the end of the hunt, you could have a card saying "IOU the best homecoming mum there is if you'll come with me. Please say yes?" Actually you can think of something much better to do and say than I can, I'm sure.

Last time I was asked to homecoming, it went like this:
Him (this guy's now my husband) "So, you wanna go to homecoming?"
Me: "Yep."
Him: "OK. I'll pick you up at 12:30."

Not exactly life-changing. But I still remember it more than 20 years later.
