I will make it clear that the more he fulfills his responsibilities (good grades, get into a good college) the more he can do.

If he wants to smoke in HS, but still gets good grades, then it's fine.


I'll set things like. If you get only A's and B's this quarter, then you can get your license by the time you are 16. If you get 2100 on your SATs we'll go buy a car for you, etc.

It'll be like he has to earn his stuff. If he does everything good, I'll be the awsome parent who lets him do anything.

I'll be like, "I'm going away for the weekend. You can do whatever you want in the house as long as everything is the way it was by the time I get back."

I'll really emphasize that he be responsible when it counts.

I probably won't encourage him smoking. But when I catch him I'll be like, "Can you smoke me out?" After that I'll tell him it's ok, but no hardcore drugs at all.
