growing lowryder outdoors?
hi all, been having a look around the site but couldn't find the answer to my question, so try not to bite my head off if it's completely stupid
i'm gonna start growing some lowryder in spring in australia just out in the garden in some good quality soil with fertilizer, but was wondering how to actually go about planting in the first place? do i germinate the seeds inside and then put them straight in the ground outside or do i grow the seedlings inside for a few weeks? then straight in or do they need to be acclimatised? if anyone has any opinions or ideas i'm dying to hear them!
cheers, smiloimp:

Hi englishsmilo
I too have been experimenting with the Lowryder strain (version 2).
I don't claim any special insight, although from what I've researched already I'd be tempted to suggest germinating the seeds indoors in small pots until you can sex them. Then you can destroy the males (unless your after more seeds) and just plant out the females without worrying about having to disturb the soil later.
Regarding acclimatising the seedlings, there are several threads about gradually introducing your plants to the outdoor temperature by taking the pots outside during the day and bringing them in again at night, gradually leaving them out for longer periods to give them time to adjust without shocking them and retarding any growth.
I'm sure more experienced growers will be along to offer guidance shortly, in the meantime welcome to the forum, enjoy and good luck with the grow

thanks for the welcome flameon. i don't have an indoor setup at the moment and it's not really practical where i live - would they be ok growing as seedlings on the windowsill or would they be better off outside in pots before potting out into the earth?

No problem.
My own experiment is a 'natural light' grow (in a conservatory) as opposed to a windowsill, but there are lots of 'grow logs' regarding the success of windowsill (outdoor and greenhouse) growing.
Check out the 'Basic Growing' section for lowryder logs
The lowryder strain being auto flowering is ideal for this type of endeavour. You can grow them on a windowsill until they show sex (at around 17 days) then transplant the ones you're keeping outdoors into prepared soil/ferts. Another advantage due to their small size is it makes them particularly good for stealth growing, surround them a couple of tomato plants etc and any inquisitive neighbours you might have won't have a clue.

i noticed on another board that someone had great success planting LR seeds straight into the ground outside without germinating them. is this asking for trouble and he was lucky? or is LR a resilient seed that can take this kind of treatment? anyone else have views about planting seeds directly outside?

Germinate em...Plant em!! Dude all you need is sun and water and regular soil(dirt).... you live in Aussy land... Well...sounds like your in a great climate for growing..It's really not hard to do..the whole Ph testing, Blah Blah..all these expensive soils and nutrients. It's all really great..and it helps make a better plant, Thats for indoor growers...I've never tested my Ph once..I used natural "earth dirt" well the spot I stuck em in was a mix of sand and loose soil...but it seem's to work good for stronger roots.
All I do is water them if we haven't gotten rain...So yeah if your growing outdoor..Just germinate the seeds..That might be the hardest thing you have to do next to harvesting it when its done..I just go and visit my plants..I do literally nothing to them. They have zero problems and are looking amazing. They are very tough plants and you'd have to seriously do something dumb to kill your plant....Like add'ing way to many nute's...Or moving it around to much and shocking the hell out of it...if left alone it will do what it has done for thousands of years, and that is grow big and strong...Plus if your buying some decent seeds you really done have to worry bout nutrients and what not...The genetics of the plant should take care of that...Your only problems should be like lack of water(which is easy to fix..imagine that)...maybe mold or mites..which are easily taken care of to.
