Pot Boycotts?
I was thinking of how you would organize a stoner boycott.
For example, say Snapple was donating a portion of their proceeds to the "War on Drugs" (I think they are!) and the MJ community wanted to make a statement.
1. Word is spread via Internet of a pothead boycott
2. Schedule of boycott published (say, a week)
3. No official organization undertaken
4. Per schedule, potheads choose not to purchase Snapple
This type of action doesn't require anyone to be "outted" except maybe one or two people promoting it. Besides the net, word of mouth is incredibly effective among smokers and when stoners get pissed they *will* choose to buy a different soft drink (why yes we are just that brave!).
One might set up a simple web page promoting the boycott. For example:
--------
Boycott the Makers of Product X !
Why: XYZ corp, makers of Product X, provide
financial support to the companies listed
below who are engaged in the persecution
of MJ users in Texas. XYZ has been unresponsive
to requests to discuss this issue with the public.
Who: These companies are involved: XYZ corp,
ABC inc, Fascist Futures inc.
What:Choosing not to buy these products will send a
message to XYZ corp that you do not approve of
their policies: Product X, XYZ creme, InstaStupid.
When:The boycott should follow this schedule
Start: March 1 05
Stop: March 6 05
----------
The organizers would also want to send a letter to the company (and copies of the boycott text) explaining wtf.
Promoting such things online is so much easier than before, and news sites like "slashdot" and such are always looking for interesting political stuff.
Personally, I'd like to boycott the war but I'm not real clear on who that is yet...probably most of the supermarket.
Peace and freedom, friends
