Depending on the resolution, a game cam would probably work fine. Most the models I've seen have motion detectors built in and do a nice job of getting the capture. The only question is whether the resolution will be good enough to allow you to ID the people who took them, especially at night.
Maybe the used to, but they don't any more. The motion sensing trigger is sold as a separate attachment. Since it's a pretty specialized item, most smaller camera shops probably won't carry it, so you may need to order it online (check B&H Photo or Adorama web sites). And don't forget that a "better SLR" is going to set you back $2-3k or more, and that's just for the body. Add a wide aperture lense, a good flash (probably going to need a battery pack for it too), and your sensor and you're talking another $1500, at least. As long as it's got the resolution, a game cam is probably better and cheaper :thumbsup:.
