Jeweler's loupe?
I have one of those pocket microscopes for seeing trichomes, but it's kind of a pain in the ass to use. You can order a 30x jewelers loupe on ebay cheap. Are they any good?

The best way to use the pocket microscope, is to snip very small samples of the bud leaf, using small scissers and twizzers. Then put the samples on a white paper plate and place the microscope over the sample. I like the 60X setting, with the built-in light on. I take several samples; top, middle and bottom of plant. You should look for the AVERAGE % over the whole plant....enjoy...

I just don't have the eyes or steady hand, to use a loupe.
